3rd Amed Film Festival concludes with celebration of Kurdish cinema and solidarity

The festival, which featured 84 films, highlighted the resilience of Kurdish cinema in the face of bans and censorship.

🗣️ “Our languages may differ, but our pain is the same. Our films are either banned or denied venues due to censorship. Festivals like this are what allow our films to reach the public. There are thousands of stories to be told, but telling them under conditions of war is impossible. Our stories will only flourish through peace. We owe this festival to the peace process,” said filmmaker Lisa Çalan.

A homecoming: Yaman’s journey of belonging between İstanbul and Aleppo

“Syria is entering a completely new phase in every sense. It’s challenging, both for individuals and the government. But Syrians are optimistic, and I see on social media how motivated they are now—in a way that wasn’t possible under Assad’s regime," says Yaman, one of the many Syrians contemplating returning home a year after the regime change.

'Terrorism' trial begins for journalists over freelance work for pro-Kurdish media

“In a period when peace discussions are back on the agenda, I am being accused of ‘aiding’ and ‘being a member’ of an organization that dissolved itself and laid down arms. Isn't this a clear irony?” bianet editor Tuğçe Yılmaz, who is among the seven defendants, told the court.

Folk singer Pınar Aydınlar sentenced to over 6 years in prison on 'terrorism' charges

"As an artist who has sung the songs and folk tunes of oppressed peoples for years, I have faced an unacceptable result. We do not accept it, and we will appeal," Aydınlar said after her trial.

The sentence was based on Aydınlar’s alleged involvement in activities of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), a pro-Kurdish and leftist umbrella group.

"I would not deny it if I were a member," she said, noting that HDK is a legal organization.

"As an artist who has sung the songs and folk tunes of oppressed peoples for years, and as a friend who openly shares every aspect of my life with you, I have faced an unacceptable result. We do not accept it, and we will appeal," Aydınlar said after her trial.
