>> THE PROJECT
"International Reporters" is an initiative for youth journalism and fair news coverage run by the international NGO "the Global Experience". The project was developed by an international group of students who met at www.theglobalexperience.org, an intercultural youth network for global learning. Currently 40 young people from 22 nations form the IR editorial and share with you news
stories, photo series and video reports that aim to give a different perspective on our countries. Our stories portrait people with great life stories, share insights into our cultures and show us the political perspectives of young people across the world. International Reporters aims to be an intercultural learning experience for our readers as well as for our team itself. Therefore our team meets each month in an online conference and once a year in a two weeks seminar at our organizations headquarters in Münster/ Germany. In our process of learning and enhancing our reporting skills we are guided by professional journalists who review our articles and give us feedback.
>> PHILOSOPHY
Our image of the world is highly selective. Wherever we live, whether we have access to a lot of media or just a few - news are always just a choice of what is really happening in the world. Often enough these news choices are influenced by commercial, political or social interestes that viewers and readers have no insights to. When it comes to international news coverage our news selection becomes even more crucial. Most of the images that we have about certain regions of the world are created by media. They form stereotypes that we adopt and reproduce, stereotypes that do not only determine our way of thinking, but also our way of acting. With our project we aim to highlight different perspectives and show you stories from our home countries that are rather unlikely found in your national media.
>> SUPPORT
The project is run by the international NGO The Global Experience and supported by Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung NRW and Katholischer Fonds on the german side.
