Energetic retro pop: The Danish duo Sly & The Man are on a mission to retromania – come along! Their song ”The Mission” has over 220.000 views on YouTube – now it is time for the official single release. The retro pop song is the third single from the duo’s upcoming debut album.

On a mountain mission
“Today’s the day I’m getting rid of the stones. Today I’m climbing that mountain. I am a chicken s**t and I’m all alone .There ain’t no coins in my fountain, my walking stick is my companion,” Sylvester Larsen (Sly) sings with his characteristic vocal.

On ”The Mission” the duo from Copenhagen and Berlin invite the listener on a daring journey. The text is inspired by a short story written by the musician Lars Muhl:

“In a turbulent time of his life, Muhl gets in contact with a mystical wise man that comes up with a number of challenges for Muhl. One of the challenges is to climb a mountain with a backpack full of large stones,” Sylvester Larsen explains.

We hear it time and time again: Rock and roll is dead. Well, nobody seemed to pass that bit of info on to Old Man Blues! Right Hand Buddy might be a senior citizen, but he can still rock with the best of them!

Today (17 June), the garage rock surf project Old Man Blues will release the EP Ready for Fun digitally and on 45 vinyl. The singer Right Hand Buddy has provided music and lyrics and has arranged the EP's four songs together with the two musicians Flavia Couri (BR) and Martin Couri (DK) as well as the guitarist Niels Kaarsberg, who all also participate in the recordings. It has become a cunning and raw EP that drives the screw to the bottom and puts the turbo on the distortion button - from start to finish.

It's an old school and slightly trashed universe, timeless and classic garage rock 'n' roll, when Right Hand Buddy shouts his songs on topics such as dementia, loss, and sexuality. Things we might not talk about often, but maybe it would be a good idea if we did?

Lützen can write a hit – and now he does it again. On 10 June Peter Lützen released the single “Knæler Kun For Gud” (Kneeling Only For God), a track that pays homage to personal freedom and markets love and nature as the leading products on the shelf. With seriousness in his voice a wrapped in a delightful pop-tone, this talented songwriter raises several questions and sets his own agenda in relation to the media, politicians, and community spirit. Today, 17 June, he is releasing the music video for the song, which you can view below.

Lützen is one of Denmark’s best pop musicians and is one of the songwriters behind hits like “Solhverv“, “Børn af Natten” and the football hymn “Så Er Der Mål” (Then there are goals). With the current single, he leads us through a personal solo universe in the name of pop music.

Lützen’s latest single “Jeg Gjorde Det Gerne Igen” (I Gladly Did It Like It Again) feat. Shaka Loveless from February 2022 is still in fixed rotation on DR P5.

“Son of Amittai” by to the Moon

Get your horns up people, this one's a headbanger!

After more than three years of hard work, Mirror to the Moon is finally returning after the release of their EP in 2019, with the first single of their upcoming debut album, produced by Christian Agaton and mastered by Acle Kahney (Tesseract). The single “Son of Amittai” is lyrically the first taste of what is to be the overarching thematic theme of the album - powerlessness and its many faces. In “Son of Amittai” you feel the almost schizophrenic viewpoint, as the lyrics and vocals go from being arrogant to angry, then confused and finally to lost. The song kicks the door down with a high tempo and lots of energy, which takes off with layered guitars and an almost playful guitar/synth hook. The song doesn’t take its foot of the gas until the bridge takes it down with swelling strings taking up the space and slowly building up to the end in the form of a blasting chorus that ends in a soaring guitar-solo.

"Son of Amittai" will be released everywhere on Friday, June 17th.

“Marathon Monks” (album) by Marathon Monks

A surplus stock of dark funk, psychedelic playroom and futuristic electro is the sound of something you didn’t know you wanted to hear. Finally, and after a long wait, they appear on the horizon like a newly restored Millennium Falcon on an acid trip. Like the sound of a clock beat from the world's first invented drum with two Höfner basses, in combination with a futuristic layer of synthesizers, the spaceship has finally arrived. Marathon Monks have landed.

On June 10, 2022, the instrumental ElectroRetroFutureFunk trio will release their self-titled, hand-played debut album Marathon Monks. At the same time, the single "The Sound of One Hand Clapping" is released.

Prior to the album, Marathon Monks have released the singles "Monk Funk (The Six Ungraspables)", "Rice Cake" and "Omen (The ElectroRetroFutureFunk Remix) feat. Ginne Marker", which have received airplay on stations such as DR P3 and P8.

Funky meditation
There's something for the club, something for the soul and something for the nerd. Marathon Monks do not shy away from the charts and go to work unconditionally and uncompromisingly when they experiment and examine their own, accomplished musical surplus stock of dark funk, psychedelic playroom and futuristic electro. The sound wanders between the known and unknown to create a mystical combination of sound you haven't heard before. The sound of something you didn't know you wanted to hear...until now.

“Sommeren Kommer” by Radio Merkur

“Sommeren Kommer” (The Summer is Coming)” is a folk pop basker which moves from the shadows and the heavy winter into the light, summer, and life in general. The parallels to the COVID19 lockdown’s dark tunnel and the light that finally came back are unmistakable. The will to live, hope and the musical joy of playing flow out of the four musicians in the band Radio Merkur in a soundscape built on traditional and simple instruments: guitars, bass, drums and percussion. In front on vocals are Jens Jepsen and MC Hansen, who perform well-sounding and catchy harmonies together with Nikolaj Wolf and Jacob Chano Lundby on choir.

Camping and piracy
The orchestra was formed during the Corona pandemic in 2020, when Radio Merkur traveled around Denmark with a caravan converted into a mobile stage. From here, they played a large number of concerts at the country’s campsites, in backyards and in private gardens and met a whole new audience.

”Move on with the Show” by Christina Boelskifte

Empowering and life-affirming single: The Danish singer and composer Christina Boelskifte encourages the listener to fight melancholia on her new single ”Move on with the Show”. The song is the first taste of a new EP called Not Alone that is available on all streaming services the 24th of June. The funky single ”Move on with the Show” will be released on the 10th of June.

Color on rainy days
“Looking out of the window, another day with rain, a summer with no sunshine, can make a girl insane“, Christina Boelskifte sings with her characteristic soul vocal. The lyrics can be heard on the new single ”Move on with the Show”: A funky and catchy soul/pop-tune that establishes Christina Boelskifte as one of the greatest soul singers in Denmark.

The song has an appealing message: It is about moving on and not letting the tough days get you down. It is an advice to stand up and fight the colorless aspects of life. Remember what a miracle it is to be alive:

“The song was written to all of us who sometimes lose courage and the meaning of life. For all of us who can feel the melancholia wrapping around us like a heavy synthetic blanket”, Christina says.

Kattegat (album) by Jaguaren i Skoven out 10 June.

Poetic indie folk music from Andalusia: The indie phenomenon from the forest in Andalusia is ready with another DIY artistic single from his upcoming album. “Storkeleg” is an uplifting and lyrically ingenious folksong that oozes freedom, love, and smoke from the fire. “Storkeleg” will be released tomorrow, Friday May 20th.

DIY aesthetics, summer poetry and falsetto

”Storkeleg i de friske piletræer, vinterbleg, vælter ud i kongens klær, bare tæer” (Storks play in the fresh willow trees, winter pale, spills out into the king’s clothes, bare toes). With his new single “Storkeleg” takes the Jaguar listener out into its natural habitat of the Andalusian forest. “Young & High” by The Oceans

With a stubborn guitar riff, “Young & High” kicks off with a bang. An equally insistent hihat suit soon follows, and together they form the driving force in the new high-energy single from The Oceans

“We actually thought we were done with the upcoming album. But we felt like we were missing a link to our previous songs – a track that just kicks on at full speed, and suddenly “Young & High” came to us”, says Dan Joe – one half of the duo.

“Young & High” is the only track from the upcoming debut album that the duo has produced themselves, and that is probably the reason why the production is more reminiscent of their previous releases, which have enjoyed coverage in various music magazines and lots of airplay on Danish radio.

On her third solo album, Homecoming, musician, composer, and violinist Anne Eltard takes the listener on a journey in the time. The album, which was released digitally and on vinyl today (June 3), offers seven of Anne Eltard's own compositions, arranged in a New Nordic tone, as well as a dive back in time with carefully selected and respectfully performed songs, by, for example, Kai Normand Andersen, Poul Henningsen and Mogens Dam.

New Nordic sound in old clothes
On the current album Anne Eltard mixes Nordic folk, country and Latin in compositions and arrangements in a sound image that provides space for both the emotions they express and to the stories they tell. Violin and voice in combination with loop, processed real sounds, echo machines and wah-wah pedal gives Anne Eltard's musicality and style a distinctive and unique sound that lives freely in a traditional musical universe.

The love of music and the old songs is palpable and calls for dancing shoes, intoxication, and escapism, but also on contemplation and reflection. The lyrics on "Homecoming" revolve around sensuality, hope and courage and touches on historical events and political issues, such as climate, conflicts, and the importance of music for people in a world in crisis.

Slade drummer rocks again
Don & The Dreamers have allied themselves with rock singer Michelle Birkballe Musik on their new single “Something Else“. The track is part of an EP release that came out on May 31st.

The world-famous 75-year-old drummer Don Powell is the band’s anchorman. He has been playing drums ever since he went to scouts in Wolverhamton in the north of England and was the founder of the legendary rock band Slade, with whom he played for about 50 years.

Here in 2022, he is a regular part of the Danish / Norwegian / English musical collaboration Don & the Dreamers. In addition to Don Powell, who is living in Silkeborg, the band consists of Dane Krølle Erik on vocals and guitar, Dane Knud Møller on guitar, Norwegian but resident in Denmark Helge Solberg on bass and Danish but resident in Norway Henrik Littauer on piano. Peter Brander also appears as a guest soloist on guitar on the EP’s three tracks. Michelle Birkballe participates on vocals and Jørgen Lang on mouth harp on the single “Something Else“.

“Höst” by Anna Kruse & Anna Lidell

Jazz meets electro: The Swedish jazz singer Anna Kruse has teamed up with producer Anna Lidell in a cross-border collaboration. In the autumn, they will release the EP Edith Electro – a collaboration of songs from Kruse’s solo albums, each of which has garnered great critical acclaim. The EP interprets the poet Edith Södergran’s sensuous lyricism in an innovative fusion of jazz and electronic beats. The first single “Höst” was released on all streaming services on May 27, 2022.

Swedish poetry in eclectic disguise
”Den nakna träden står omkring ditt hus och släppa in himmel och luft utan änd, de nakna träden stiga ned till stranden och spegla sig i vattnet”

(The bare trees stand around your house and let in heaven and air without end, the bare trees
descend to the beach and reflect in the water)

sings Anna Kruse empathetically with her dark sounding vocals. At first listening, you become infected by the playful and pulsating accompaniment, which sets the mood. The music draws threads to many different genres, and therefore becomes wholly its own.

Avoid the Void (album) by Ellipsis Quintet

Ellipsis Quintet, the musical project of trumpeter Vasilis Nalbantis, has now released their debut album Avoid the Void, and it’s a beast of an album!

The album falls under several jazz subgenre, depending on how you view the world of jazz—progressive jazz, fusion jazz, and experimental jazz, world jazz.

Avoid the Void is a masterful journey through a musical landscape that combines traditional jazz with Balkan, Greek and Eastern Mediterranean influences, and western style prog rock. For me at least, this the combination of two perfect worlds—Jazz and prog rock.

The title track “Avoid the Void” is the perfect example of the merging of Ellipsis Quintet’s musical universe. Starting off with a more classical jazz sound, it isn’t long before the electric guitar rears its proggy head through Dream Theater worthy guitar licks. A little further on you get a Miles Davis sounding trumpet backed by guitar power chords, thundering drums, synths and a hammering bass line only for the music to drop back down to traditional jazz with an exceptional piano solo! The song ends where it began.

“Anything You Want” by Vinyl Floor

We can wax on philosophically for hours on whether certain life events “just happen”, are “luck” or whether they are “destiny”; and though we might disagree on why things happen, the one thing we can all agree on is that when they do happen, the results are often magical.

Let me tell you the story of one such magical moment…
One dreary afternoon Vinyl Floor's Thomas Charlie Pedersen was in the Facebook chatroom “Dylanology”, a space dedicated to somewhat “nerdy” Bob Dylan super fans. By chance (luck, or destiny…you choose), Thomas found himself chatting with none other than Rob Stoner, Bob Dylan’s former bass player (Stoner also performed on Don McLeans’ “American Pie” and played with legends such as chuck Berry and Joni Mitchell, among others).

When Thomas told his brother and fellow bandmate Daniel Pedersen who he had been chatting with, they though what the hell, let’s ask him if he wants to play on our next song. The brother’s reached out to Stoner, sent some demos and, to their surprise, Rob Stoner not only liked what they were doing, but agreed to play on "Anything You Want”.

That’s freaking cool, right? Well, Rob Stoner wasn’t the only heavyweight to be drawn in by the brothers’ sound. The horns you hear on their new single "Anything you want" are by the legendary Swedish multi-instrumentalist Bebe Risenfors, who has played with, among others, Tom Waits and Elvis Costello.

n a world where there is so much style without substance and so much stuff without style, it can be hard to recognize the real thing, though it does come along occasionally. Looking like she just stepped off the cover of a 1960’s edition of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Marissa M is all about retro, from her look to her music to her music videos. And this retro vibe drives her latest 80s inspired single “Can’t Stop”.

For this elegant fashionista of a bygone era, music isn’t just a “thing” she does in her spare time, but a true passion, and it is this passion for music that stirs her thrill to be alive! After finishing her master’s degree and launching a successful professional career, she came to realize that her one and only passion has, and always will be, music. With this realization Marissa M picked up her pen and put her thoughts into words. Those thoughts became the basis for her new single “Can’t Stop”.

Although she might have felt otherwise after graduation, Marissa M realized that her musical chapter wasn’t finished just yet:

“‘Can’t Stop’ was the first song I wrote as I figured out that nothing could stop me anymore from making music – this just felt right”.

Turning her dream into action with this song was the first step towards what would become a steady path forward in her music career.

KAT KOAN , Berlin’s “Queen of the Irreverent”, is back with a spicy new tune called “Fangs Out”, recorded with her new band, Kat Koan & The Lost Souls. With crunching guitars and plenty of distortion, “Fangs Out” is about the need to stop complaining about how hard your life is and instead stepping up and taking control. In her classic “hold no punches, in-your-face” way, Kat Koan—once again—removes the filter from her mouth and lets the listener have it in this scathing commentary on lost dreams and dashed hopes.

While the first half of the song is dedicated to “complaining”, it’s that second half that really gets spicy...

Anne Eltard is a composer, sound artist and musician within the genre areas Nordic folk, ethno, Balkan and the slightly jazzy. Prior to the album Hjemkomst (Homecoming), which will be released digitally and on vinyl on June 3, she releases the single “Hold mig tæt” (Keep Me Close), which is a Latin-inspired and sensually blissful homage to love and infatuation.

An Eltard expression
From an experienced and extremely active musician, the listener is invited inside in one swinging, delicious and well-produced musical land that calls for sensitive dance shoes, intoxication, and escapism. On the single and upcoming album, Anne Eltard plays with her quartet consisting of some of the country’s best musicians: Regin Fuhlendorf on guitar, Nicolai Land on bass and Anders Pedersen on percussion. “Hold mig tæt” is Latin with Nordic folk tones. Anne Eltards, primary electric violin playing, on which she uses a tuned wah-wah pedal, adds an extra dimension to the music and frames it into a unique Eltard expression.

Singer/songwriter Kat Herlo is finally ready to release her debut album Things We Avoid. It is an album that takes the listener on journey through her personal experiences with the ups and downs of life. Things We Avoid is out today, May 3rd 2022.

Lyrics exposing personal vulnerability
After a long wait the soulful singer/songwriter Kat Herlo is ready to release twelve personal songs on her debut album. With Things We Avoid the Danish musician invites the listener on a great journey through her personal experiences with grief, longing, unrequited love and despair. And just as the heartbreak tears you apart, with a glint in the eye Kat Herlo gives the modern dating culture a total overhaul.

”I’ve written a lot of songs about grief and pain, but through the years I have developed a tougher, more morbid and sarcastic style of writing. Sometimes I think it’s easier to express my feelings through irony. I also think that people are more likely to listen to and understand my lyrics better, when I use sarcasm”, Kat says.

Simple melodies and edgy lyrics are fostered on Kat Herlo’s debut album. The musical arrangements stretch across the magnificent, commercial, acoustic and romantic. The album features cello, slide-guitar, piano, bass guitar and drums, that intertwine and playfully support the lyrics and drama. The musical result draws a line to strong musicians such as Alanis Morisette and Tina Dico.

Since her debut in 2021, French-Danish pop artist Cindy Chiche has made quite a name for herself on numerous blogs as well as on Danish radio. On April 29, she released a new single called “DriveThru” along with a sensational music video in which she’s dating an endless line of bland suitors.

She is serving milkshakes at the classic American diner while rolling around on roller skates, as she speed-dates one suitor after another in the music video for “DriveThru”, which has been created in collaboration with the production company Primus.

The guitar driven “DriveThru”, produced by Malthe Guldberg (Emil Stabil, Elias Boussnina), and released on April 29. The song is driven forward by a so-called 'reggaeton beat', playfully encapsulating the mixture of English and French, which has become the Danish-French pop singer's special characteristic: "You just knew exactly how to manipulate my thoughts", she sings in French and reveals that "DriveThru" is far from a love song.

En dans på roser (A Dance on Roses) is the title of the brand new album from Copenhagen quartet Falderebet, which will be released digitally and on vinyl on 13 May. In the run-up to the album's release, Falderebet released the second single from the album - "Den du ikke var" (What You Were Not) on April 29th, – in which lead singer Bo Bech braids today's dating culture where we hide behind ‘Gloss’ profiles and often have no idea who or what we are in love with, was released.

"Den du ikke var" is dynamic and organic noise-pop where Bo Bech’s vocals, in contrast, are soaked into a thick - almost hip-hop-like - autotune acoustically to emphasize how to manipulate and present one reality that does not exist. This is the first time that Bo Bech's vocals have been manipulated in this way and, strangely enough, the result has been
more touching and heartfelt than was the case without autotune.

On the song, singer and songwriter Bo Bech Arvin zooms in on today's dating culture, which is most often initiated and played out online - often over several months before an actual physical contact is established. With the chorus line - – “Jeg ved du har holdt mig for nar, men jeg elsker stadig den du ikke var” (I know you've kept me silly, but I still love who you were not)- is a recurring theme in the song that dating online is an illusion...

In early March, the band Starlingville released the single "Beautiful Day". It was the first outing from the group's debut album, Welcome to Starlingville, which will be released on April 29. The single, which has since been in constant rotation on, among other things, DR P5, was a musical reminder to remember the beauty of everyday life. On the debut album, Starlingville's lyrical and musical palette is further expanded.

Starlingville is a new Danish band whose melodic and organic sound has equal parts roots in pop-rock, roots-rock and Americana. The band name refers to songwriter and frontman Anders Andreassen's family name, Stær, and symbolizes the mental, musical free space that Andreassen visits during the songwriting process. A series of unforeseen, external events recently kicked off an intense creative musical process with Anders Andreassen.

An unforeseen firing and the forced isolation of the corona crisis provided time for calm and contemplation, resulting in a resurgence and renewed dedication to music and songwriting. In addition, the tragic death of several acquaintances led to a harsh realization of the transience of life and the realization that life must be lived right now.

"The day after the incident I went straight out and bought an expensive, new guitar. It dawned on me the hard way that life cannot be taken for granted. It is about getting what you are passionate about done now, rather than postponing it until tomorrow,” says Anders Andreassen. The result is eleven songs that tackle the small and big questions of life and focus on everything from freedom and democracy to love and identity.
