Constructed in 1478 for Giovanni Dario, a prominent Venetian diplomat, the palace was intended as a dowry for his daughter, Marietta.
Tragically, Marietta’s husband, Vincenzo Barbaro, faced financial ruin and was later murdered.
Marietta, overwhelmed by grief, took her own life, and their son, Vincenzo Jr., was killed in a subsequent attack. These early tragedies set the tone for the palace’s ominous reputation.
