Let's be honest, I am HORRIBLE at marketing myself. I own it, and the irony is I'm constantly advocating to my clients how important it is to essentially be obnoxious about promoting their business or organization. So here we go.

You know I'm self-employed running my company Vaupel Video. I am a content creator, and I was one LONG before that was a term. I film, I edit, I create graphics and animations. I write, I direct, I consult, I livestream and run live event sound. I even teach people how to interview on-camera (yes, that is a thing and a skill, and if you haven't ever been coached, call me).

Today, I'm prepping for a live show on Sunday. You know I direct and livestream our church's Sunday morning worship service. I love it, but it is work. Each week I produce anywhere between 15-30 graphics. On Sunday, I create the camera angles, switch between them, display graphics on screen, all the while monitoring a livestream that is being broadcast on 2 channels. Again, I LOVE it.

This may appear to some as bragging, it might be a little. :)
But honestly, this is an example of the work I do. I take great pleasure in creating content, whether it be for my church home, or directly for a client. Video marketing is important. It's vital. If it isn't a portion of your advertising strategy, friends, you are missing out.

Friends, it's that time of year again, gift giving season. And I KNOW all of you are struggling with what to buy me. :)

All kidding aside, I've been self-employed for almost 7 years. In that time, I have worked with a ton of amazing clients. I'm grateful for each and every one of them. For trusting me to share their stories, and the opportunity to share my talents with them.

I do have a serious request, if I have worked with you in that time, could you take a few minutes to give me a review, either on my Facebook, LinkedIn or Google business account? And I wouldn't mind if you did all three.

The question I'm most frequently asked is, "What do you love most about your job?" That's an easy one, I love telling a story. Regardless of the objective of your video, getting someone to hire you, buy your product, inform about your mission, the goal is to share a story that connects with your audience. I relish the opportunity to create and shape a story.

There is no place I feel more comfortable than in an edit suite, with tons of footage and limitless options to create and share a message. While some might think it's challenging to take an hour of interviews and pare it down to 10 minutes, I love it. And in all modesty, I'm really talented.

On the subject of film scores, and their significance to movies, check out this very short clip. The dialogue is a huge call back to the characters conversations from Spiderman 2. Additionally, the theme music in the background is from the original soundtrack as well. It really helps make this scene hit even harder.

In honor of the theatrical release of "The Batman," I'll share a piece of the film score with you. I am a film score ju**ie, so this is totally in my wheel house.

Did you know, in the film “The King’s Speech,” the shot composition of Colin Firth’s King George VI was intentional? The story tells of King George VI struggling with a terrible stammer and seeking treatment to help him be a better public speaker. Early in the film, the cinematographer framed Firth small in the frame to give a visual cue to the audience of how insecure and ‘small’ Firth’s character felt. As the movie progresses, Firth is framed closer and more from the front to show how his confidence is growing. Great filmmakers will incorporate this type of filming and editing to present subtext and to reinforce the spoken word. You should look for it in any show you watch. It adds so much to a visual experience.
