A two days training and workshop aimed for volunteers from all walks of life to comprehend climate change adaptation.

The training was organized by Climate Advocacy and Coordination for Resilient Action (CACRA), supported by the German Red Cross and funded by Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The workshop was held on 12-13 June, 2024.

Students went through a serious problem when some questions of computer-science practical, final examination of class 10th (Federal Board SSC II), held on 7th May 2024, were not readable for them. One student informed that they couldn't read the questions as the questions were written too tiny and blur. They also informed that the duty examiners at the examination center didn't read it for them when requested and left the students in chaos.

Authorities should look into this matter carefully to compensate the students and make sure to provide assistance to the students appearing in examinations,

In Sunni Islam, Ashura marks the day that Moses and God conversed on Mount Sinai, akin to Yom Kippur in Judaism. Other commemorations include Noah leaving the Ark and Prophet Muhammad's (sallallahu alyhe wassallam) arrival in Medina.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Ashoora’. He said, “What is this?” They said, “This is a good day, this is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemy and Moosa fasted on this day.” He said, “We are closer to Moosa than you.” So he fasted on this day and told the people to fast.

In 2013, 73% of the Jewish people of Israel said that they were intending to fast on Yom Kippur

According to a special Yom Kippur survey by the Guttman Center for Public Opinion and Policy Research of the Israel Democracy Institute – 60.5% of Jewish Israelis plan to fast on Yom Kippur, while 27.5% do not, 5% plan on only drinking liquids – while abstaining from eating food and 7% haven’t decided. It is interesting to note that the results are quite similar to those of a survey taken in 2000 when 63% said they planned to fast – but indicate a significant drop from 73% in 1994.

Messianic Jews and some other sabbatarian churches also observe this as a holy day, from evening to evening.

In the Christian observance, it is a time of prayer and fasting from all food and drink and a time of instruction through study and church attendance. It focuses on Christ's sacrifice and atonement for sins. It is seen as a time to give thanks and praise, to humble oneself and to seek repentance

In 2015 the United Nations officially recognized Yom Kippur, stating that from then on no official meetings would take place on the day

Husayn ibn Ali kept Yom Kippur:

In 680 CE, Husayn, the second son of Ali and thus a grandson of the prophet Mohammed, challenged Yazid's right to the caliphate. Encouraged by factions that opposed Yazid I, Husayn marched to Kufa, expecting to be received with honor and enthusiasm. However, Yazid I sent a strong military force that killed Husayn and all his family. Tabari relates in detail, but without explanation, that Husayn was fasting on the day he was killed. It probably of some significance that October 10, 680 (Julian) - the 10th of Muharram 61 A.H., appears to have coincided with Yom Kippur that year.

New moon – when the moon passed between the Earth and sun, causing the April 20 hybrid eclipse – was early this morning. And after every new moon comes a young moon, a slim crescent in the west after sunset. Occasionally – when the moment of new moon happens around midnight by your local clock – you have a chance to see a very young moon, one less than 24 hours old. That’s the case, for some of us, tonight (April 20, 2023).

Seeing such a young moon is a rare delight. At such times, the moon is still close to the sun along our line of sight. In other words, it’s close to the sunset. And its lighted portion is turned almost entirely away from us. It’s a fragile illuminated crescent moon, maybe the thinnest crescent moon you’ve ever seen.

Will you see a very young moon on April 20, 2023? It depends on where you are on Earth’s globe, and on your sky conditions. If you do catch it – and have a photo –

Why so specific? There are two things to consider. First, the angle of the ecliptic, or path of the sun, moon and planets. Second … timing.

Angle of the ecliptic. Here’s why it needs to be Northern Hemisphere, not Southern Hemisphere, to see tonight’s young moon. At this time of year, in the Northern Hemisphere, the ecliptic is making a steep angle to the evening horizon. That steep angle carries the moon high above the sunset. Meanwhile, from the Southern Hemisphere, the ecliptic makes a narrow angle with the evening horizon in April. And that narrow angle carries the moon to one side of the sunset, keeping it closer to the horizon. A young moon closer to the horizon is tough to see, because it’s buried in the twilight glare.

Timing. Now consider, for example, London on April 20. London time is just an hour ahead of UTC. So … new moon falls at +4 UTC, or 5 a.m. London time (“” means “approximately”). And that means that – on April 20 – the moon around sunset will be just under 15 hours old (5 a.m. to 8 p.m. = 15 hours), as seen from London. And it’s probably not possible to see a 15-hour-old moon with the unaided eye (though some have claimed to have seen it!).

But – by the time of sunset on April 20 as seen from New York City – the moon will have gotten farther from the sun in our sky. It’ll be a slightly older moon, setting longer after sunset. New York City is four hours behind UTC, when daylight time is in effect. So new moon falls at 12:12 a.m. EDT in NYC on April 20. And sunset in NYC on April 20 falls ~7:30 p.m. EDT. And that means that – on April 20 – the moon around sunset will be ~19 hours hours old (12:12 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. = ~19 hours), as seen from NYC … old enough to catch in the west after sunset!

And so on across the various time zones of the continental U.S. Those in the Central time zone will see a young moon ~20 hours old. Those in Mountain time will see a moon ~21 hours old. Those in Pacific time will see a moon ~22 hours old. All see-able, and all less than a day old!

So will you see it? Maybe. You’ll need to look toward an unobstructed horizon, shortly after sunset. Clouds, trees or tall buildings could hide the moon from view. Here’s a tip. As soon as the sun is safely over the horizon, start scanning the western horizon for a sliver of the moon. Use binoculars to scan, if you have them. If you can’t find the crescent moon, look for a surprisingly bright point of light deep in the bright evening twilight. That’ll be Mercury, which is several degrees away from the thin crescent moon on April 20, and might help you spot it.

Trying is always fun. And, if you do see it, the moon on April 20 will be so, so beautiful.
And, just remember, the April 20 young moon will soon follow the sun below the western horizon.

Can you see a young moon with your eye alone?

How young a moon you can expect to see with your eye depends on the time of year and on sky conditions. It’s possible to see the youngest moons – the thinnest crescents, nearest the sunset – around the spring equinox. And so you know, the youngest moons will be more of a slight curve rather than a full crescent.

And cameras can catch more than the eye alone.

For example, when Legault captured the image above, the sun and moon were separated only 4.4 degrees – about 9 solar diameters – on the sky’s dome. It is extremely difficult, and risky, to try to capture the moon at such a time because there’s always a risk of unintentionally glimpsing the sun and thereby damaging your eyesight. So don’t try it, unless you know what you are doing!

In Muslim world the new moon would end the lunar month fasting after either 29 or 30 days of the current moon phase.. Eid celebrations would take place from the sight of the new moon.

This year Muslims are more excited to know whether the first day of Eid would be on Friday or Saturday.. One reason is that Friday is already a sacred day for Muslims and its significance would weigh upon either the last Friday of Ramadan or the first day of Shawal,the Eid day.

Marco Pierre White's troubled son has been released from prison vowing never to touch drugs again after spending more than £1 million on rehab - and today he reveals he has converted to Islam to help him stay clean.

Marco Pierre White Jr, 28, was this week released after a year in jail for a spree of shoplifting, possessing a knife, possessing he**in - and racially abusing a supermarket security guard.

But the Celebrity Big Brother star says he is being supported by his celebrity chef father after becoming a Muslim as he battles to 'stay clean' and reform years of drug abuse which began at the age of just 13. And he now plans to become a chef like his famous father.

The US has shot down a giant Chinese balloon that it says has been spying on key military sites across America.

The Department of Defence confirmed its fighter jets brought down the balloon over US territorial waters.

China's foreign ministry later expressed "strong dissatisfaction and protest against the US's use of force to attack civilian unmanned aircraft".

The discovery of the balloon set off a diplomatic crisis, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken immediately calling off this weekend's trip to China over the "irresponsible act".

The Chinese authorities have denied it is a spying aircraft, and instead said it was a weather ship blown astray.

On Friday, the Pentagon said a second Chinese spy balloon had been spotted - this time over Latin America with reported sightings over Costa Rica and Venezuela.

Colombia's Air Force says an identified object - believed to be a balloon - was detected on 3 February in the country's airspace at above 55,000ft.

It says it followed the object until it left the airspace, adding that it did not represent a threat to national security.

China has not yet commented publicly on the reported second balloon.
