7 M A R A T H O N S I N A W E E K !

Meet who is taking on this awesome challenge for a great cause in September. He got in touch with me the other day as he was looking for people to run with. (He has a lot of training ahead of him and he is now added into our WhatsApp group!)

We had a great chat and I said that some of our runners will definitely join him not only for his training runs, but for some of his marathons as well, even if just for 5km!

Here is a little bit about the man who has decided that doing 7 marathons back to back is a genius idea! (Also something I would do so I can’t even say how stupid it is! I mean GREAT!)

“Hey, I’m Alex 👋

I started endurance training in 2015 and since then, have completed triathlons at Ironman and the 70.3 distance.

But now I take it on my greatest challenge: 7 marathons in 7 days for brain tumour research, which is a charity close to home after my Father-in-Law was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Despite it being one of the deadliest forms of cancer in children and adults under 40, only 1% of the national funding gets allocated to brain tumour research. There really is not enough knowledge out there, so I’m trying to raise as much money and awareness to do my part in tackling brain cancer!”

J O I N O U R F R E E R U N S !

We are a super friendly group of people of different ages, fitness levels, run paces and genders.

You can be a total beginner or someone who runs regularly.

Some of our members have only just completed a couch to 5k or been to a few runs ever in their lives. And then we have those who are regulars in races from any distance from 5km to a full marathon or even ultras.

We meet at various days and times and do all sorts of distances and people naturally slot into their groups based on run pace.

The idea is that we make each other accountable, motivate, support and help each other.

F I R S T H A L F M A R A T H O N .

I am so proud of my client who ran her first ever 21.1km in London yesterday.

She said: “It was tough and took longer than I wanted, but I’m not well so I am just happy to have finished… I’ve got so much respect for marathon runners now!”

I love watching people achieve things that they didn’t think was possible.

P A C E D O E S N ‘ T M A T T E R .

A lot of my clients who run often tell me “but I’m not very quick.” My response is the same every time…

The first thing I ask is “do you enjoy running?” And the answer is always yes, to which I then say that it doesn’t matter how slow or fast you go, as long as you get it done.

Consistency is key and even if you do two to three regular runs a week, you will get faster. And if you don’t, then it really doesn’t matter as long as you’re getting out in the fresh air and it’s making you feel better.

Some people want to improve their run time, distance or both, whilst others are happy plodding along at the same pace week in week out, and what ever you choose to do is fine!

So next time you feel like commenting about not being a fast runner, just pause for a moment and think what you get out of running. Whether it is great for your mental health or you do it for weight loss and general fitness or anything in between the most important thing really is simply that you enjoy it!

G O O D L U C K !

It’s the tomorrow and our lovely Alex is running the 20miler (32km) and who is currently totally smashing her running will most definitely finish her 10km with a PB.

I am so proud of everyone in our new little community for encouraging and motivating each other. There have been new time and distance PBs set, great friendships and bonds being made in a short space of time, and this is only the beginning!

5 K M P B A L E R T !

It’s mad to think that Trudy only started running in January. She did her first ever 5k run without stopping with our group five weeks ago in just over 30 minutes and yesterday she did the same distance in 26:37!
(I’ve attached her last three runs in this post.)

Everyone in this group just keeps making me so proud. We have people from those who are totally new to running or are just coming back to it after having children to those who have loved running for years and those who are regular half marathon or marathoners.

You really can be any age, gender and fitness level, enjoy steady slow runs or want to get faster and sign up to races to join our community. None of that matters. What does matter is that you want to meet like minded people, come along to our social runs and do the pace and distance you’re comfortable with and encourage others.

THIS WEEKS RUNS:

Saturday: Newport Pagnell Bury Fields Park Run 9am.

Sunday: Olney 5-10km 9am.
