Smock Magazine R.I.P. 1999-2002 Both the literal and figurative smock have come to represent the wearer's ability to created with abandon.

The traditional smock has morphed from a garment worn by British countrymen and easel artists into something that might be found in the back of a closet-a faded Rolling Stones T-shirt, a stained button-down oxford, a torn pair of jeans. ging and established artists, smock mixes up conventional categories, allowing for a generous irreverance that takes art out of the historical context and repositions the focus back into your world. Our inaugural issue is organized and edited like a remarkable group show, where the bigger picture arises out of a series of distinct and often diverse voices. In seeking out ideas that distinguish the worlds of contemporary art, fashion and design, I have worked with an intense and highly inventive group of people, whom I take this opportunity to thank for bringing this vision to fruition. It is with enormous pleasure that I welcome you, our readers, to our premiere issue-a collaboration of ideas and the emergence of a new art attitude. Scott Bennett
