Generations later, people would come and go using the term Power Pop, and more loosely, it is being dragged on and on by the "powers that be" (or "The Man"), to mean anything else that's popular music - when it's NOT. hinking. If not fashionably flaunted in colorful tones and playful get-ups, Power Pop stands in a philosophical view point as "Carpe Diem" - not-caring and happy-go-lucky. Musically, Power Pop is HUGELY melodic, playful and, did we say FUN? Seriously speaking, you know it's Power Pop when it's almost always - albeit WRONGLY - termed as Pop/Punk. Pop is mainstream. Punk is against ALL that's mainstream! Power Pop is "Stacey's Mom". Power Pop is "My Sharona". Power Pop is most songs by Plain White T's, Boys Like Girls and Forever the Sickest Kids. Although purists may argue that those are not Power Pop, it is. They have all the qualifications - compressions, strong melodies, punk-leanings...
Let's call it "Neo Power Pop" for all we care, but these bands - quite recently Forever the Sickest Kids - are the new breed of Power Pop. These are the bands that keep the flame of the genre, alive! POWER POP-U will educate you on Power Pop and warn of you of charlatans. It's sooooooo EASY to say that some song or band is Power Pop. But you, our dear likers, friends and members, would know better. Enough ranting, LET'S POWER POP-U!
