Sometimes, I forget what I’ve done and the people I’ve met. My daughter Jazzy was at the house recently and started looking through a cookbook. She was surprised to see Ms Patti had inscribed a note to me. (I’ll do better Jazzy!) This was at her book signing at Barnes and Noble in New York. The only two media outlets that were there at the time were myself and Access Hollywood. Favor!
This was actually the second time I had met The first time was backstage at an ESSENCE Awards show. I worked in the wardrobe department and had to bring double-sided tape to her dressing room. My hands shook so badly that I couldn’t apply the tape to her shirt. Norma, her Stylist, took the tape from me and put it on Ms Patti herself. LOL. She is always a class act and as beautiful on the inside as on the outside. Happy 80th Birthday, Ms Patti Labelle.

Mahogany has released first look pics of Deborah Ayorinde, Bethany Antonia, Dan Jeannotte and Akil Largie in the sumptuously beautiful period adaptation in “Sense and Sensibility,” a new, original movie premiering Saturday, February 24 (8 p.m. ET/PT), on Hallmark Channel.
Directed by Roger Bobb, the movie is part of the network’s Loveuary with Jane Austen programming event. It honors the author’s timeless legacy with four all-new original movie premieres, every Saturday in February. Set in Regency-era England, it features original costumes by Kara Saun and hair designs by Kim Kimble. Author and historian Vanessa Riley (Island Queen) served as a historical consultant.
Following the loss of their family patriarch, the Dashwood women’s financial circumstances drastically change and they are forced to leave their home for a modest cottage in Devonshire. Soon, practical eldest daughter Elinor (Ayorinde) falls for the equally pragmatic gentleman Edward Ferrars (Jeannotte). Her passionate sister Marianne (Antonia) meanwhile spurns the advances of their steadfast new neighbor Colonel Brandon (Largie) for the much more exciting John Willoughby (Victor Hugo, Riches). When Elinor and Marianne’s romantic prospects do not turn out as hoped, each sister learns to embrace the other’s approach to matters of the heart.

The event will highlight the accomplishments and contributions of Academy Award-nominated actress and Grammy Award winner Danielle Brooks, six-time Grammy-nominated singer and leading actress Halle Bailey, acclaimed screenwriter and showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll, and President of Original Programming for STARZ Kathryn Busby.
The awards ceremony, produced by Essence Studios and Red Summer TV, will air on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network and stream on Max/discovery+ (date/time to be announced).

BREAKING: Spelman College has received a 100 Million Dollar donation from long-standing Spelman trustee Ronda Stryker and spouse William Johnston. The gift is the largest donation to any HBCU ever. President Dr. Helene Gayle graciously accepted the gift stating that 3 quarters will go to scholarships and sending the Message that the students are worth it. And that it is worth supporting HBCUs.
