LivewireAU’s Six Pack: Rising Tensions, Love, Loss, and Letting It Be
This week’s Six Pack features vastly different artists - whether you’re into folk-fusion, prog-metal or sunny indie rock, we’ve got a great new Aussie release for you to have a squizz at.
’s new EP SARAH-TONIN has just dropped, and it feels like the soundtrack to a coastal road trip montage. With strong influence from mod-rock legends The Jam shining through, the EP features guitar hooks that oscillate between feel-good pentatonic hooks and riffs that could be out of an old Western, tom-driven drum lines made for dancing barefoot in the sand, and an overall of a surf-rock vibe.

@teenagedads make divine chaos - connecting the dots between wayward experimentalism and the sugary rush of 00s indie-pop, their music is perfectly ordered at first glance and wonderfully haphazard at second, a combination of studio chops and D.I.Y. ingenuity that places them miles apart from the Australian indie-rock mainstream. Teenage Dads do things a little weirdly, pretty differently — but that’s kinda the point. TYDE is a Meanjin/Brisbane funk rock band fronted by percussive guitarist & singer Ella Belfanti alongside bassist Harley Belfanti and guitarist Lucas Montgomery. TYDE puts on an energetic show of genre fluid music with soaring vocals, virtuosic solos and heavy head-banging riffs. They treated us to a stripped back set, the very last performance at our old studios going out with a bang ✨ Songs Played: Headfirst Give me a reason Let the dust fall ✨ Music by @tyde_band Sound Production by Lucas Montgomery Video by @thattomvu

You’ve never met an artist quite as exhilaratingly odd as Carla Wehbe. An elusive trait often misunderstood but highly prized in the music world; Wehbe’s is an unconventional uniqueness of vision that has become the hallmark of the likes of Bowie and Mercury. ✨ Resident journo @hazelmeimusic interviewed @carlawehbe at @bigsound last month.
@_tracedecay ‘s recently released sophomore EP ‘Imprint & Illuminate’ is an expertly crafted addition to the bands discography. The seven track EP takes us on a winding, introspective journey through a clever blend of moody electro-indie sounds, exploring themes of self and relationships. @alissajl caught up with frontman Jordan Depas for a chat all about about the making of this EP ahead of the EP launch on the 14th October- taking place at Felon’s with a fantastic lineup, it’s def one to check out! 🖤🖤 📸: Dom Gould

There is a thin line between powerful and fragile, and Of Lion balances upon it effortlessly. Hauntingly delicate vocals deliver introspective, emotionally driven songs that reflect on De Leon’s own experiences with a potent yet understated strength. ✨ Right Thing was written about my struggle relying on disordered eating as a coping mechanism, and how disorientating and isolating it feels to know you can’t rely on your own mind. I was in a pretty bad place when I wrote the song, but I hope it makes anyone who struggles with something similar feel like they’re not alone. ✨ I actually wrote Sunset back in 2017. It’s about feeling abandoned by someone but still caring about them regardless of how they treated you. Sometimes I think I’m too soft for my own good, but I just can’t help but leave the door open for people in case they ever need anything. ✨ Music by @oflionmusic Video by @thattomvu Set Asst @still.process @tessafleurmusic @pipin.pipin_
Sydney based indie-pop duo @youprobs_ release their fourth single today, a biting reflection on that feeling of running into an ex with absolutely no time to prepare yourself. Angsty yet danceable, with emotional riffs, catchy bass and dreamy harmonising vocals, ’Shoot Me In The Grocery Line’ is an incredible new addition to an already sparkling discoagraphy. @alissajl sat down with the duo on zoom this morning and chatted about all things ’Shoot Me In The Grocery Line’- from trying not to get kicked out filming a music video, to a cheeky soft launch of their live set coming soon!

We have something special from our own resident journo and talented artist in her own right Pipin. The Meanjin project and eccentric alter-ego of Bec Hoole has established itself as a mainstay of the local music scene. We filmed this video earlier in the year just at the onset of all the heavy rains and flooding. Although the crew were a bit soaked it was all worth it as we were treated to a captivating set by the band.
