What is First Shot(s)?
First Shot(s) Microfest is a platform to showcase raw talent and celebrate the first works of budding Visual Storytellers. Proudly presented by RP and School of Technology for the Arts, First Shot(s) is a Micro Film Festival run by students, showcasing the most outstanding work from last semester’s Visual Storytelling Module.
Festival Objective
:: Provide a platform for appreciation and early encouragement of visual storytellers
:: Appreciation for Storytelling, beyond the technicality. Appreciation of work, and grooming of budding visual storytellers / filmmakers early in their Poly Life.
:: Give Year 1s (& 2s) a chance to showcase raw talent - and bring together the ‘budding visual storytellers / filmmakers’ from different classes / cohorts. So they know each other, and can work together and collaborate earlier in their Poly Years, kick starting their filmmaking dreams.
This year’s First Shot(s) Microfest is run by a team of 4 students. Eugene Au (Festival Manager), Isabel Lee (Festival Manager), Matthew Ong (Media Producer), and Hirfan (Designer), alongside Festival Founder / DMPD Lecturer Tzang M. who put together all the championing of this festival.
This festival is not about polished works. We embrace the DIY ethic of just-do-it filmmaking. Many of the films in the official selection are raw and put together by people with no prior experience to filmmaking.
But every film in the official selection is a work of passion, and has something to say.
Skills can be learned. Experience can be acquired. But do you wait for your skills and experience to ‘be there’ before you make your first film?
Or do you just take the first shot.
Gather what you have and take the first shot.
This is what we believe.
You’ll never be completely ready.
Just take the first shot.
