Loved hosting and chairing this sold out event talking about People and Place for Leeds Society of Architects and Leeds Civic Trust last night. This is something I’ve worked on for years. How do we create and keep a sense of place in regeneration and development? What is the role of architecture and design and culture in this? And vitally how do we put communities and people at the centre?

Amazing speakers. And particularly great to chat Bradford 2025 with which as you all know is very very close to my heart! 🩷💚💛

Tonight at the premier screening of Episode 1. You all have such a treat coming on BBC next week.

This is a TV detective drama like no other. Bradford is one of the characters. A very South Asian drama.

Wonderful wonderful stuff from Amit Dhand

Sparking debate about . Why I felt I had to change and why I’m annoyed about it and why is this seemingly such an issue for women of my age?

Out journo reporting this evening at the national HQ in 📻🎙️. It has the original Countdown clock in the big top floor room 🕰️🕰️

The building is a building with real history. I haven’t been inside since it was a famous nightclub! 🪩🕺🏼 (and arguably the venue of the start of the downfall of the mighty Leeds United.

Once also a cinema, ran here non stop from April 65 to Sept 67. 🏔️🎵.

EDIT: Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust's transplant team have now paused enquiries to help 'Jack' in order to work through the hundreds of enquiries made. Please see our latest post for more information.

Urgent appeal to find a kidney donor for 12-year-old boy in the council’s care.

We’re issuing an urgent plea to find a kidney donor who could help transform the life of a 12-year-old boy in our care.

Jack, which is not his real name, has been in our care since 2022. He was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure when he was just 10 months old and has been on the transplant waiting list since 2019, but so far no donor has been found.

Sadly, due to complications in recent weeks, Jack is now on his last treatment option which puts his future at real risk unless a kidney is found.

A public appeal of this kind is a first for us as a council but, because he is a child in our care, we are determined to do all we can to help him find a donor and we’re urging people in Leeds and beyond, to come forward and see if they can help.

Potential donors must meet certain criteria to be eligible to donate: aged between 18 – 55, a UK resident, not having diabetes or receiving cancer treatment, and having a body mass index of less than 30.

If you, or someone you know, think you’re able to help, please email [email protected]

It was a post like this that led me to working for over 4 years in community led housing. So as we start 2025, trying something different to help me find new work, a new job etc.

🚨A Different Kind of Post - I Need Your Help🚨

For the New Year I'm doing something completely out of character -reaching out to my network because something isn't adding up in job applications. Word of mouth has bought much of my work so far. So maybe it can again

I've applied for roles I'm entirely qualified for - with over 30 years of high-level strategic, management & comms experience -and I'm not even making the long list. I'm hoping this isn't due to unconscious ageism or sexism, because I can confidently say I still have more energy and drive than many decades younger

*So I'm asking my network: Will you help me?*

This isn't typical for me. I'm not one to directly ask for help or big up my skills. But it's time to try something different

Throughout my career, I've been driven by an unshakeable belief that meaningful change happens when passionate, pragmatic people come together with a shared mission. My professional journey has been a pretty unusual tapestry of diverse roles - recently running two careers simultaneously. I'm not just another consultant or leader –I'm a connector, a strategist, a visionary, a storyteller, and a relentless problem-solver who sees every challenge as an opportunity to reimagine what's possible

Consider my professional landscape:

*Developed national campaigns & strategies that became legislation & national policy/practice
*As an awarded broadcaster, built a media career from scratch in my 40s
*Established Bradford as the world's first UNESCO City of Film, laying the ground for City of Culture 2025
*Directed/led countless non-profit & public sector organisations on management and strategy
*CEO / senior leader in a range of non-profit organisations, teams and initiatives.

My work spans a wide range of critical areas:
* Children's safety/workforce development
* Cultural regeneration
* Housing & employment policy
* Advice
* Community power
* Strategic communications
* Service reform & more

I look at how things can be, not how they are. By bringing together diverse stakeholders & challenging conventional wisdom, I craft innovative approaches that transform systems & empower

My specialities? Big ideas, connecting people, strategic vision & actionable plans & leading the way. Whether leading an organisation or being part of a team, my commitment remains the same: driving sustainable, people-centred solutions with infectious enthusiasm

From spearheading national networks to awarded journalism, driving non profit visions and campaigns, managing and directing non-profit organisations, writing books to hosting sold-out events, I've always demonstrated that impact comes from personal connection, collaboration, strategic thinking, and an unwavering belief in people-powered change

So if you've worked with me or can speak to my capabilities, would you:
* share this post or my details with anyone relevant
* or pass on my details or connect me with opportunities
* write me a recommendation.
On my LinkedIn post and shares, people I've worked with have said the kindest things about my work; thank you all. I've put a few in the comments below. ☺️⬇️

I may have turned 56 but I want to still be a catalyst for meaningful, lasting impact so am looking for new opportunities. Ideally a job, but I'm open to all sorts. What the job/sector/topic/remit is is less important to me than I feel I am making a difference.

Thanks for helping me take this brave step.
