When the Universe Prostrates... ...But You Don’t.

Everything in existence, the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, and creatures unseen bows down and prostrates to Allah in absolute submission. Yet, among mankind and jinn, there are those who refuse.

Surah As-Sajdah is a wake-up call, a reminder of where we came from, the reality of our fleeting time on earth, and the inevitable meeting with Malakul Maut (the Angel of Death).

Rasulullah ﷺ would recite this surah every Friday at Fajr, alongside Surah Al-Insan, to remind us of our fragile existence and what comes after.

In this episode inshaAllah, we reflect on:

The ultimate act of worship: Sujud, why lowering ourselves is actually our greatest honour.

The submission of all creation except for some mankind who persist in arrogance.

The reality of what's to come - the coming of Angel of Death, the situation of the disbelievers in front of Allah etc.

Who will be able to help you, on that difficult Day?
.On the day when we, as individuals, will be standing in front of Allah, and have to answer for ALL our deeds?

The deeds of fasting and the night prayer are so virtuous in the sight of Allah, that He Grants the honor of allowing our righteous deeds with the ability to speak up and testify for you, and therefore intercede on your behalf on that day.

As we approach the end of Ramadan - spending the days fasting, and the nights in worship - let this Hadith sink in to remind us:

#1 Rejoice & Look forward to a great compensation from Allah: Your efforts and hard work are NEVER in vain! The Prophet ﷺ describes:

“The fasting person will experience two joys: the joy when he breaks his fast, and the joy of when he meets his Lord.” (At-Tirmidzi)

We’ve experienced one aspect of that joy in this month - as we broke fast and enjoyed iftar with our loved ones from our family and friends. Now, all that remains is that positive anticipation of that second aspect of happiness: that feeling of Joy when we meet Allah. This hadith illustrates one aspect of that happiness - when Allah grants us the honor of having our deeds intercede for us on that Day!

#2 We should not stop there: This hadith isn’t specific to Ramadan - it’s about how we live our lives, and how those actions will LITERALLY speak for us on the Day of Jdugment. If we truly yearn for these deeds to intercede for us, we shouldn’t stop these virtuous acts. Rather, we should have taken Ramadan as a training ground for us to get into those positive habits.

As the scholars would say, there is no way to tell for certain, if our deeds are accepted. But among the SIGNS of the acceptance of our righteous deeds, is that we continue sustaining those deeds in the long term.

In these final hours of Ramadan, let’s plant the firm intention of istiqamah, and make du’aa to Allah to grant us the strength to keep up the positive habits of fasting and night prayer!

May Allah accept from all of us, and from you!

Many strong emphasis were given at the end of an act of worship or season for ibadah.

As we know, the highlight of each night is in its final third where Allah descends to the lowest heaven, the best of the first days of Zulhijjah are in its final 2 days which are the day of Arafah and Eid Adha, the final hour of the day is the best part of Jumaat and the best time for Ramadhan is in its last 10 nights. As the prophet reminded us that every deed is judged by its ending.

For those who have strived the entire month make doa that Allah accept your deeds, follow it up with forgiveness due to our endless shortcomings in worship and never for once feel impressed by it.

“And those who give (their charity) which they give with their hearts full of fear, because they are sure to return to their Lord (for reckoning).” (Surah al-Mu’minun 23:60)

As for those who were heedless, hasten to seek forgiveness for our ignorance and never for once lose hope in Allah ‘s mercy as only the disbeliever lose hope in Allah.

Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy, except the people who disbelieve.” (Surah Yusuf 12:87)

For indeed if Allah had accepted your one and only sole forgiveness made even in the very last hour of Ramadhan, verily that will be the catalyst for your future success

“…….Verily, Jibril came to me and he said: Whoever reaches the month of Ramadan and he is not forgiven, then he will enter Hellfire and Allah will cast him far away, so say amin. I said amin…..” (Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān 907)

Moist your tongue with the best doa taught by our beloved Prophet in these last 10 nights of Ramadhan
O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me

Surah Al-Asr is the third shortest surah in the Quran, containing only 3 verses and therefore making it a favourite for worshippers often times to recite it in their prayer when they are short for time. While it uses simple and direct words, it also has deep and comprehensive meanings, containing sharp and direct reminders for all mankind to adopt in avoiding the true catastrophic failure.

In other words: Surah Al-Asr defines the criteria to earn minimum success.

So much so, that our great Imam Shafi'ee once mentioned that if Allah had only revealed this Surah, it would be sufficient mankind!
The short powerful nature of this surah made it a regular practice for the sahabah (companions of Rasulullah ﷺ) to recite it whenever they depart from a gathering. Ibn Qayyim even includes all the criterias in this surah as the basis of our personal jihad (struggle) against our whims and desires.

So, what are the minimum success criteria? How can we put them into practice and plant it as our life slogan? What was the wisdom that was so profound about these ayat that the sahabah would recite it so regularly?

How can we excel in the last 10 nights of Ramadan?

As we may have fallen short in the days this Ramadan, don’t fret;

its not too late to make this Ramadan a successful one.

Rasulullah ﷺ said “Verily, the (results of) deeds done, depend upon the last actions.“ (Bukhari)

Sheikh Abdussalam Al Shuway’ir, one of our contemporary scholars mentioned, “what is best to perform in every virtuous time are actions that are legislated in it“

Our mother A’isha
‎رضي الله عنها did us a tremendous favour by asking the Prophet ﷺ , “O Messenger of Allah, what do you think I should say in my supplication, if I come upon Laylatul-Qadr?”

Rasulullah ﷺ then responded “Say: ‘Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Forgiving and love forgiveness, so forgive me).’” (Ibn Majah)

It is indeed a great Mercy from Allah that the knowledge of what is the best action in these last 10 nights have reached us through authentic narrations throughout the span of time - a sign that Allah has preserved His religion in the most perfect way.

So recite this duaa often with full sincerity and may you obtain the rewards of following the Sunnah, with comfort and knowledge that this is the best action to be performed in these specific nights.

The final dash in Ramadhan

The final dash in Ramadhan

And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden [i.e., Paradise] as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the muttaqun - righteous (Ali Imran: 133)

We are almost at the conclusion of this great month, with its best coming in the final 10 nights. Our beloved Prophet would exert a great deal of effort more than the first 20 nights. He would spend its nights awake for prayer and remind the same for his family and would tighten his waistcloth and perform I’tikaf in order to seek out the great night – the night of decree.

So it is befitting of us; his ummah to emulate him in veneration of these final ten days to strive in pursuit of the reward Allah have prepared for His servants. The reward of Allah’s forgiveness over and above pious deeds amounting greater to a thousand months awaits those who hasten to do good.

For the believer, their iman will propel them in making the sprint for the final leg of the race grabbing every opportunity that arises. Strive hard, make doa to Allah for guidance and let surprise ourselves to see what we are truly made of - the muttaqun.

Rasulullah ﷺ once asked the great companion Ubayy ibn Kaab رضي الله عنه : what is the greatest verse in the Qur'an?
Ubayy immediately recited ayatul Kursi: " اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ"

Out of over 6,000 verses in the Quran, Ubayy chose this ayah, verse number 255 from Surah Al Baqarah. Acknowledging his response, Rasulullah ﷺ replied, “by Allah, you are indeed favoured with knowledge ya Aba Mundhir!” (Muslim)

It is no coincidence that we find this verse mentioned in countless statements of our Prophet ﷺ such that it becomes entrenched and often recited as part of our daily practice as Muslims striving to follow in the footsteps of Rasulullah ﷺ.

Life can feel overwhelming. Stress, uncertainty, and worries about work, family, and the future often weigh on our hearts. But amidst all this, Allah has given us a simple yet powerful way to find peace.

“Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured.”
(Ar-Ra‘d: 28)

We often seek comfort in different ways—social media, entertainment, or even talking to loved ones. But true, lasting peace comes when we turn to Allah and remember Him.

Tafseer Al-Sa’di explains that Allah describes believers as those whose hearts find tranquility through His remembrance. When we make dhikr—whether it’s saying SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, or Allahu Akbar—we are not just reciting words. We are reconnecting with our Creator, the One who controls everything in our lives.

Some scholars say that dhikr also refers to the Qur’an, which is a source of guidance and reassurance. When we reflect on its meanings, we gain clarity and strength to face our daily struggles. Unlike worldly knowledge, which is filled with uncertainty and contradictions, the Qur’an is flawless and provides certainty.

Allah reminds us:

“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an? If it had been from [any] other than Allah, they would have found within it much contradiction.”
(An-Nisa’: 82)

In a world full of distractions, it’s easy to forget this simple truth. But next time you feel overwhelmed, pause and remember Allah. His words will always bring you back to peace.

How has the remembrance of Allah helped you in difficult times?
