"Now I have an opportunity to find grace in our journey forward while surrendering completely to the universe. This has been one of the most terrifying ideas I have ever had to face. As a recovering codependent person with control issues, letting go of the wheel has never been an option."

The last few months I have been filling my life with intent and purpose to forgive myself and my partner for our mistakes and surrender to our love and the universe unconditionally.

The need to get grounded amidst the turbulent times we live has never been greater:

It is possible to get—and remain—grounded even in the midst of the turbulent times we live in. It just takes a few small practices to powerfully start your journey toward

"1. Become a body whisperer: ditch the clock-watching and listen to your hunger and fullness cues. Don't eat mindlessly or restrict yourself unnecessarily. Your body is your best guide."

I've lost track of how many times I've been at the receiving end of shock and unsolicited advice (more like reprimand) by possibly well-meaning, nevertheless unhelpful relatives

"After meditating over this many hours, I came to the conclusion that for some of us (like me), true femininity comes from a deep connection with ourselves."

As a teen, I used to be a tomboy. I had a phase when I did soccer and dressed like a boy. I hid the first signs of my sprouting femininity under baggy pants and oversized

"As we continue to navigate the complexities of life, embracing gratitude can serve as a powerful tool to cultivate a more positive and resilient mindset."

We've delved into studies and grown to understand the numerous advantages of practicing gratitude. Now more than ever, functional medicine doctors emphasize

“You wake up and no, you won’t look at your phone straight away. Breakfast first, maybe even a bit of yoga, meditation, or journaling. Pretending you don’t care that much, just in case the universe is watching. The longer you wait, the more you hope for that little flame in your heart to light up when you read his/her message. After all, you agreed to go to that new restaurant soon and have a chat. Except it’s been one week since you last wrote, and you’re still waiting for an answer.”

Waiting is indeed a developmental trauma response. It hurts so much because while you wait, you make the silence mean terrible things about you and end up feeling defeated and as if you don’t belong.

Forget travel brochures and cheesy airport montages—the reality of globetrotting with Type 1 Diabetes is an adventure in itself. At 17, I have already lived with Type 1

"So what if we start changing our definition of what beauty is?"

There have been so many standards imposed on what beauty is—and most of them have been set by men and a patriarchal society—that women also unknowingly

"I’m here for a retreat, and I’ve been told to write a letter to myself from the future, and I have been given 20 minutes to do it. I’m surprised at what comes out, and how quickly. As I write the last sentence, I’m aware that this letter is not just for me. It is for you, the one who is worried it's already too late and the world is already too far gone."

I’m sitting on the body of an enormous fallen oak tree, in a field a half hour northeast of Louisville, Kentucky. It’s autumn, and cool. The rain has stopped.

"I bet even Jesus of Nazareth and Gautama Buddha had times when they just wanted to curl up in bed with a teddy bear and cry. And no doubt Mister Rogers also suffered days when he wished his neighbors would go stuff it."

As we used to say in the spiritual community I once lived in, it’s the energy. The definition of this might sound fuzzy, but it’s the overall vibe of the day.

"When we’re faced with challenges in life, we always have a choice. We can choose to let it completely derail us and we can let ourselves feel like powerless victims. Or, we can face the shadow and the darkness head-on."

My guide held our phones as flashlights as dozens of bats flew overhead, their nearly silent existence given away by the soft graceful fluttering sounds of their wings.

“While we deconstruct old models, there’s one aspect of diversity and inclusivity that is rarely addressed: The one within us, and it has a cost, even more so for women.”

This is your reality now, and this is totally okay. This is what diversity is; we are all different; we don’t have the same needs at the same time.

"I can see the fruits of all my hard labor and know that the energy I put into these beautiful gardens, seeds, plants, vegetables, and herbs will be worth it. That energy produces something magical, even if only temporarily. It is tangible."

“It is perfectly normal and human to have days when we feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and even hopeless. Allowing ourselves to experience and express these emotions is not a sign of defeat, weakness, or pessimism.”

It is important to remember that every survivor’s experience is unique, and reaching acceptance and positivity is a deeply personal walk.

I don't know if it's the melody or the words or the fact that it's a New Year's Eve tradition, but something about that song always makes me emotional.
