Check out my latest podcast with Pharo Cattle Company cooperative producers Rob, Weston and Al who are working to develop heat tolerant composite bulls that thrive in the heat, humidity and endophyte infected fescue!
I had the opportunity to have a second conversation with Jim Howell, CEO of Grasslands LLC. Today we got to dig into the details of three of the ranches that he manages, the first in western South Dakota and eastern Montana, secondly in New Zealand, and lastly in Florida! Each ranch has it's own unique landscape and climate related challenges which Jim and his ranch managers have found ways to work around and even to turn into opportunities. It's also fascinating how each operation is grazing based, but operates in different markets from custom stockers, to sheep, deer and even roping cattle. When listening to how Jim has developed profitable ranches in all these different environments, consider how you can apply his thought process in your own ranch. And please share in the comments how you are taking advantage of opportunities in your region to run a profitable business.

I might be biased, but this is my favorite episode yet. Every time I talk with my dad about the history of our farm I learn something new! In today's episode, I sit down with my dad, Jon Luhman, and get into the details of how our farm came to be what it is today. From our roots as a progressive, high input crop, beef and dairy operation to our transition to a low input beef grazing enterprise and all the stops in between.
