Good news to share! (see post below).🦅Our communities love the eagles seen fishing and nesting frequently on our lakes (and we love the photos of them that y'all send us!🙂).

Name something more American, we'll wait... 🦅

This year's eagle surveys were a huge success! Surveys were taken from along the coast and the northern part of the state this year and brought some very impressive findings. Only 25 years ago, there were only 50 nest territories in Georgia. This year’s survey revealed 145 occupied bald eagle nest territories in the areas surveyed. Check out more of the stats from this year's survey! 👇

- 116 nest were successful, meaning eaglets were fledged in these nest
- 178 eaglets were fledged
- 21 new nests were recorded for the first time this year
- 9 new nest were recorded in the coastal region alone

Did you know a Box turtle only roams 1 mile its whole life? If it is removed from its area/home then for the rest of its life it will roam aimlessly stressed out... trying to find "home" until it dies a very sad death.

Please do not remove turtles. If a turtle is in the road you can help by moving it directly across the street in the direction it was heading. Thank you!

Gorgeous day to be on the lakes --be like this family and stay safe!🙂

Yesterday at Lake Nottely, while Cpl. Matt Johnson was fueling his patrol boat, the Russell family pulled up to the fuel dock. Cpl. Johnson noticed that the kids on board were wearing their PFDs! Avery, Hannah, and Andrew got a chance to see the patrol boat and they were given T-shirts for getting "caught" wearing their life jackets! Special thanks to the Lake Nottely Improvement Association for providing these shirts to be given out as a reward on the lake!

UPDATE: We've been told the road is open now. (Haven't personally been out on it yet). Great news!! 😃
Travelers on Hwy. 44 TODAY -- Be prepared for lengthy delays in the area between Harmony Road and Linger Longer -- Per Ga DOT: Lane closures on SR 44 to replace concrete in need of repairs in Putnam County near Greene County line. 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (but closure must remain in place until the newly-poured concrete is cured). Exact time may change due to weather conditions.)

So, this is a great time to make sure that everything on your boat is in good, working condition, that you have plenty of US Coast Guard approved life jackets, a properly charged fire extinguisher (if you have a motor), and a throw cushion.
