The City-County Observer offers condolences, first to the families of the bystanders who were injured or killed during the attempt to assassinate former president Donald Trump. It is terrible to think that this death occurred simply because of attending a rally to support a political candidate.

A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling enables city’s to arrest or fine homeless sleeping outside. In Vanderburgh County, much of that activity is Downtown. The City in 2022 spent $45,000 on benches that include "tabletops" and discourage sleeping and the Downtown economic district hires security to move the homeless off the Main Street area. Many have told the City County Observer they know they’re not wanted on Main Street. Therefore, many who can’t find shelter sleep outside on the riverfront or near the YMCA and United Caring Shelter on the edge of the Evansville Economic Improvement District.
