Apologies for the delay, this is the second of our exclusive behind the scenes reports at Sellafield. This one looks at how engineers are planning to remove some of the worlds most hazardous nuclear waste when they're not sure what is in the silo.
St Bees remembers 11.11.2018
Today I went along to St Bees to join in the Remembrance Sunday event to commemorate 100 years since armistace.
Taking inspiration from Danny Boyle's Pages of the Sea the St Bees Triers decided to write the names of their fallen parishoners on the beach. Alongside the names were poppies and hearts, all drawn by local artists.
Afterwards Chris Robson read Carol Ann Duffy's The Wound in Time before a two minutes silence. Here is Chris reading the poem.
The gift of a wedding for Susan
Sometimes you can't help be affected by a story. This is one of those for me. Such a lovely family, with an awful diagnosis. Pleased to live in a community that can rally round and organise a wedding and redecorate a house in under a week.
Sending love to Susan, Jay, Lisa and their gorgeous kids.
Tebay discovery dig
I recently went along to a dig at Tebay with the Lunesdale Archeological Society and some children from the nearby primary school. They're trying to find out more about how Cumbrian's lived just before the Romans arrived.
Blue Light torch relay
It can often be assumed that our emergency service personel are used to the traumas they see as part of their day to day jobs. But the 'Our Blue Light' charity was established to dispell that myth.
The charity offers support to those affected by what they encounter as part of their role. To raise awareness they've been sending a blue light across the country and today it was on Bassenthwaite Lake.
Egremont weir removed from River Ehen
The Ennderdale Mill Dam is being removed on the River Ehen at Egremont. The project will remove the weir which has been in place for 250 years to help freswater mussels, salmon and other animals thrive.
Cumbria to host Tour of Britain TWICE
Cumbria is to host TWO consecutive stages of the Tour of Britain THIS September. The first starts in Cockermouth and ends at Whinlatter on Thursday 6th September and the second the day after. On the Friday the race starts in Barrow before ending at Whinlatter once more. In 2016 five million pounds was brought into the economy. I've been speaking to businesses today to find out what they think.
Isolation in farming communities when you're gay
The following piece is one I've been working on for some time. Rupert Williams and his documentary team spent a lot of time researching how difficult some men and women find being part of the LGBTQ community and the farming community. Many find it isolating, some move away from the areas they grew up. But there are also stories of acceptance too.
Campus Whitehaven topping out ceremony
Last week I attended the topping out ceremony of the new Campus Whitehaven - the home of St Benedict's Catholic High School and Mayfield School.
Fitness equipment at Bitts Park
Fitness equipment has been installed at Bitts Park. It's aimed at helping people battle the bulge and exercise outdoors.
Sellafield and Autism 2
As Autism awareness week draws to a close we take a closer look at how one of the county's biggest employers, Sellafield, has made changes to the way they work to get the best from their staff.
Thousands of people work at the former nuclear site and at its offices in Whitehaven. As Samantha Parker has found it's been a balancing act for the company as they strive to help those that need it, while remaining fair to rest of the workforce.
Sellafield Autism 1
Autism affects 700 thousand people across the UK. It's described as "a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others."
Only 16 per cent of adults with the condition have full time jobs. But one of our biggest employers, Sellafield, is adjusting its way of working to support employees with autism. Our West Cumbria reporter Samantha Parker has been given exclusive access to the nuclear plant for this special report to mark Autism Week
