The infographic showcases a useful shortcut for getting the equivalent resistance of n parallel resistors with equal resistances.
EXAMPLES:
[1] 10 resistors with equal resistances 500 Ω are connected in parallel. Find the total resistance.
Rₜ = 500/10 = 50 Ω ✅
[2] What is the equivalent resistance of 5 parallel resistors of 15 Ω each?
Rₜ = 15/5 = 3 Ω ✅
[3] Find the total resistance of 69 parallel resistors, each having a resistance of 4,761 Ω.
Rₜ = 4,761/69 = 69 Ω ✅
[4] Determine the total current flowing through a connection of 70 parallel 210-Ω resistors if it is being supplied by a 3-V source.
Rₜ = 210/70 = 3 Ω
Iₜ = 3/3 = 1 A ✅
[5] The total resistance of n parallel 5-kΩ resistors is 200 Ω. Find the number of resistors in the connection.
200 = 5,000/n
n = 5,000/200
n = 25 resistors ✅
