Tips for sending premasters to mastering engineers if you are new to having music mastered

1. Make sure the track is between -10 to -6db (-23LUFS)

If you are new to having music mastered you may make the easy mistake of sending over a track at 0db, the reason for sending tracks over at a quieter level is to give the mastering engineer room to work on the track. Another mistake is sending over the track with the master set to -6db (for example) when recently working on the track with the master set to -12 or -16 to avoid digital peaking. Before sending the pre master the tracks peaks should be sitting between -10db - -6db (-23LUFS) for the mastering engineer to work on. If you are unsure, ask your engineer, each one has a different preference.

2. Take out effects from the master channel (especially limiters)

Everyone’s workflow is different, some people work on their tracks with limiters on their master channel. To most people maybe starting out or still learning on their own, throwing a limiter on and pushing it up may sound like it’s making the track sound better. As it does make the track sound louder, it causes a damaging effect to your track’s dynamic range. Personally, I have had some people send me tracks with a boosted limiter on their master making the track almost impossible to master to a high standard.

DO NOT WORRY if you have done this by mistake, it happens to all of us as we learn, I myself even made mistakes like this when I was studying and making music in college, most mastering engineers like myself are happy to talk you through the process and give advice to make sure you receive the highest standard possible for your tracks.

Yep, that’s right! Those who wish to have their song(s) mastered will now have the choice to have digital or analog masters!

It’s been a plan for a while to get this option available and after finding good outboard equipment and testing it out on my own tracks it’s now time to expand services!

Analog mixing is currently not available and may be available in the future!

Update

I have been very busy lately and feel like I've not posted on this in a while due to uni work, music work and lot of other things like work etc.

While this has all been happening I have still been doing masters, id like to thank everyone who has still been trusting my work! I've also been working on different strategies of promoting out work and other ways to get in touch for masters (mainly looking at fiverr)
