STATUS was founded in 2008 back in Wilmington, NC. Wilmington is like a small 1/10 scale version of Austin. There are a lot of people ranging in age from 18-40 who work their asses off all day, then hit the streets at night to spend that hard earned cash. There were some lower quality papers floating through the bars, restaurants & retail businesses who focused only on the nightlife, but nothing w
ith content to make people actually take any time to read the pages. Wilmington needed a magazine about the who, what and where, that also covered all the bases and could appeal to almost anyone, anywhere. A magazine that was eye catching to entice you to pick it up in the first place, contained
interesting and out of the ordinary articles and interviews to keep it in your hands, and small enough to make it easy to take with you (because people usually do). The market was there, so STATUS was born. It rapidly gained popularity and was a big success. Now, STATUS has come to Austin to expand the audience and the physical content of the magazine. Austin is a much larger and more populated region, which gives us the opportunity to expand our content and deliver our brand to a wider range of readers. Our goal is to branch out to Dallas by 2014 and continue expanding from there. Moving to Austin and planning to expand to Dallas is a huge leap for us and it’s something we’re very, very excited about. Pete Maresco
