Producers and audio engineers: this is a piece of software designed to train listeners in how to identify timbral nonlinearities and other colourations in audio.

It was designed by Harman, a world leader in evidence-based loudspeaker design, for use in loudspeaker testing, but I can imagine it being equally useful for producers and mixing/mastering engineers who want to better train themselves to identify subtle changes in music resulting from EQ, reverb, noise, etc.

Very interesting little piece of software.

With a background in instrumental music, electronic music production, and loudspeaker design, it was only a matter of time (and a relocation to Berlin) before Andreas Maan found himself in front of a pair of turntables, and later founded Patterns of Perception with a group of likeminded friends.

Moving between ambient eclecticism and dancefloor-oriented techno, his DJ sets appeal as much to the body as to the mind, and are marked by their depth, drive, and ever-rising intensity.

yo so i've just realised (or was told maybe and then somehow forgot) that Echo Chamber, the track Hysteria and i collaborated on for The Zeitgeist, is on youtube

we made this track in a pretty odd way. one of us would get 48 hours to come up with a single element in isolation, and then return the track to the other, who would have another 48 hours (longer if it was sunday) to add another element. this went back and forth until it felt like enough of something to sit down together and finish off. the result is what you hear

the record itself is also available via Bandcamp and from sydney's Something Else Record Store and features music by australian artists connected to berlin, including Eluize, Trinity AU, Mike Callander, DJ Simon Caldwell, Claire Morgan, Alex Albrecht - Melquíades, and Mind:Body:Fitness

Was just incorporating a mono recording of some ambient sound into a track in Ableton and worked out a convenient shortcut to double mono recordings without having to create two separate audio tracks.

Insert a simple delay unit in the audio channel containing the recording and configure it is as shown (the optimum difference between L and R channels might be anywhere between about 10ms and 25ms, is dependent on the recording, and needs to be determined by ear).

The only disadvantage I can imagine would be distortion (if any) introduced by the effects unit itself, and the fact that you will now have your whole recording delayed at least 1ms (since 0ms is not an option), forcing you to move your clip forward 1ms in arrangement view if it is to be used as part of a composite sound containing transients (unlikely if you're doubling it in the first place).

Pls stop!* Imagining the acoustic effects of this is hurting my brain 😱

*Unless you have a very low ceiling and a lot of distance between the speakers and side walls, and intend to keep your head rigidly fixed in a position equidistant from each speaker.

actually, this mix been bursting to get out of me for over 2 years, but until this month i hadn't had time to sit down and do it properly

it's an eclectic but (i hope) cohesive patchwork of musique concrète, ambient, and minimalism, with a touch of medieval chant
