What started as just a playlist that reflected the newly released hip-hop tracks I happen to enjoy has now turned into an official page. I spent weeks collecting new tracks that I consider playlist-worthy and after I found what I’m looking for, I make sure that the tracks are in a specific order so that you, the listener, can cruise along the vibe that I’ve set out for you. Because, up until this
point, I’m really the only one who’s listening to my carefully selected playlists. I’m a writer with a regular job to pay my monthly bills. I listen to music while I write and I don’t think it’s a bad idea to combine the two. I’m not a rapper. Yet, that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the sound of perfectly matched syllables, wrapped together in a sentence. I am also far from a producer. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t know the feeling of not being able to not nod my head, to this beautiful yet filthy production I’m hearing. I love it. This means that whenever I have time, I listen. Five-minute bike ride to work? You can be sure that my headphones are accompanying me on my short journey. I read articles about artist that I don’t know yet. Also, I enjoy randomly listening to recently dropped albums, so that I can discover my next favourite artist. This -I think- is completely normal. What maybe isn’t though; is that whenever something special stands out, I absolutely have to tell everyone about it. My friends are regularly forced to listen to parts of tracks they don’t particularly care for. As soon as my favourite lines are about to drop, I stop what I’m doing and frantically repeat the word ‘Listen’ so fast, I don’t even pronounce it correctly. Sadly, I also rudely do this whenever someone is telling me something important. I don’t do it on purpose, my enthusiasm takes over and if you are near me you have to deal with it. It’s as simple as that. So instead of harassing my close circle with information they didn’t necessarily ask for, why not write about hip-hop and share some music for like-minded people? Because, I am a writer…who just happens to really like love Hip-Hop. So this is Wesley von Bars. Welcome.
