We’ll reclaim all leadership positions – PDP governors vow"

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has vowed to reclaim all leadership positions occupied by other political parties.

The Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, made the vow at the opening of the forum meeting on Wednesday at the Government House, Enugu.

According to him, it is a very unique and ambitious meeting in the history of the party, as they are in Enugu to make history and showcase their perseverance to the party.

“Today we are here to unify ourselves, discuss issues that affect the party, and various matters within ourselves.

“Our agenda will go through governance across party administrations, discuss inter-party affairs, Congress, and other things we need to do to provide credible alternatives to Nigerians.

He revealed that the meeting involved PDP governors and other party stakeholders, including the national working committee and various organs of the party.

The governor added that their assessment had shown at the national level that the country were driving towards anarchy, stressing that “we will not allow that because we share history, we share aspirations for Nigerians.

“It is high time the party reclaimed its leadership position in all the states that are currently being occupied by other parties,” he said.

Mohammed commended Gov. Peter Mbah for hosting the meeting and for taking care of them since they arrived on Tuesday.

The governors present were Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Agbu Kefas of Taraba, and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara States.
Others are Ahmed Fintiri of Adamawa and Douye Diri of Bayelsa, including Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who is the host governor.

The governor said they will continue to work and give total support to gov Fubara of Rivers State.

FOCUS ON SELLING YOUR ASPIRATION TO THE PEOPLE

• A'Ibom PDP Chair Advises Aspirants

Otobong Sampson

Aspirants who hope to realize their ambition either as elected officials of local government council or officials of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State have been advised to shun underhand tactics and instead focus on convincing those with the votes about the genuineness of their ambition.

Elder Aniekan Akpan, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Akwa Ibom State handed down the advice during an interaction over forthcoming events in the party.

He urged aspirants to keenly observe and key into the new political culture in the state introduced by the Governor and leader of the party, Pastor Umo Eno, as it will enhance their cause and brighten their chances.

Explaining, Akpan said the culture abhors blackmail and underhand tactics while it simultaneously strengthens sincerity in politics and gives fillip to service-based ambitions.

The party, he remarked, has always pushed for these ideals but acknowledged that these aims have been taken to impressive levels by the leader of the party and Governor of the state.

"We must consolidate on these new gains influenced by both the leadership style and approach to political service adopted by the Governor", Akpan stated.

On the local government elections, the party chairman re-echoed a reminder on the position of the Governor on the preference for council chairmen who would reside in their local government areas so as to feel and understand the needs of the people.

"This is what aspirants should concern themselves with. They should go sell their manifesto to their people in line with the ARISE Vision and see how to convince them that they will live with them to deepen development in the rural communities as envisioned and passionately pursued by our leader, the Governor."

On March 30, 2024, the Peoples Democratic Party held a statewide ward meeting across the 31 local government areas of the state to strengthen its ranks and fortify grassroot structures of the party. It also used the opportunity to welcome thousands of decampees who returned to the party recently.

The chairman also used the opportunity to urge members of the party to prepare for its forthcoming Congress in June as endorsed by the national leadership of the party.

RIVERS POLITICAL CRISIS: THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG
.... Atiku's Press Statement laughable

By Aniekan Udofia

The sights and sound of the Nigeria that the recent Supreme Court judgement delivered on the presidential election has begun to unfold in the current political crisis rocking Rivers State. What is happening in Rivers State may be the template to what is to come in the Nigeria that the current administration of President Bola Tinubu will birth.

The word impunity may just have a clearer definition to Nigerians under this current administration. That a sitting governor can be shot at with teargas, pressure water and bullets in a state he is the chief security officer is just the tip of the iceberg of what is to come from legitimising in illegality by the court of justice for sale to the highest bidder.

Under Obasanjo's administration, a serving governor in Anambra state, Chris Ngige, was abducted and reduced to a mere ordinary man, and the federal government did nothing about the action of the police under its command. No one was brought to book to account for what happened. The alleged perpetrator, Chris Ubah, loomed large in the public justifying his action.

Today, inspite of the overwhelming evidences and gross failure of our electoral system, the Supreme Court gave legitimacy to Tinubu’s election and Nigerians are expecting magic from a man whose ascension to the highest office in the land was through a flawed process ridden by blood of innocent citizens.

On Monday, 30 October 2023, the Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar addressed the media in reaction to the Supreme Court judgement delivered on the February 25 Presidential Election. Atiku went ahead to make recommendations on how to improve our electoral system in future elections.

How laughable it is for Atiku Abubakar to believe that a man that benefited from an election that was alleged and deemed by many to be fraudulent and lacking credibility in many sense will embark on electoral reforms to give Nigeria a credible election in the future.

Even Muhammadu Buhari, in all his posture as an upright man, refused in 2018 to sign into law an amended Electoral Act for an election he was going to contest in 2019. How much more a Tinubu who has participated in some of the worst elections in the history of Nigeria. A Tinubu who saw hell let loose in his Lagos State just to secure a second term for Babajide Sanwo-Olu. A Tinubu who watched how it took INEC to set aside its guidelines for him to be declared winner of the election.

Tinubu did not earn the name jagaban by fluke . The man knows clearly how to 'jaga jaga' the system to get his wish. For a man who said on camera; “Political power is not going to be served in a restaurant. They don’t serve it a la carte. At all cost, fight for it, grab it, and run with it,” it is foolhardy for Nigerians to expect anything less than what is happening in Rivers State.

How Atiku Abubakar, with all his experiences in politics, will think that a Tinubu administration can institute electoral reform is a wonder. Is it not a tall dream to think that a man who has largely gained from failed institutions will attempt to destroy his source of power?

Nigerians should brace up for the worst level of impunity under this current administration. This administration will last 8 years except for a divine intervention. The thought that in 2027, Nigerians will vote out this government is mere wishful thinking. 2027 election will be the worst in our nation's history under this current administration. The polling units will be one of the worst places to be on election day. Votes will be insignificant as winners will have already been determined. In opposition states, it will be a fight to finish.

2027 will record the high level of voter apathy. Many Nigerians have lost hope in the electoral process and the judiciary. Nigeria has become a company where the political class constitutes the Chief Executive Officers and Directors. They enter board meetings and pass their resolutions to the failed institutions in the country to execute. They share the dividends amongst themselves and their cronies. In 2027, again, the company Nigeria will be up for sale to the highest bidders, and they will populate the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government.

The political crisis in Rivers State is a sign of what to come. The monster that Rivers people allowed to reign supreme has found bed fellows that can fuel his hunger for power and abuse of office. Nigeria will witness worse because in the eyes of the current bunch at all cost, you fight for power, grab it, and run with it. In the words of popular novelist Chinua Achebe, THERE WAS A COUNTRY.

"Obong Sunny Udonsek hasn't helped Ikot Ebekpo youth before and as such him and his nephew should not meddle with anything that concerns Ikot Ebekpo village. Any person who thinks he or she has power should channel it towards developing the ward or helping the youth," he further added.

FESTUS KEYAMO AND HIS ERRATIC VITUPERATION
By Dele Momodu

I have just read Festus Keyamo's response to my critique of the APC Manifesto of lies. I'm not surprised that all he could do was yell as usual without examining or practically addressing the content of my article. Unfortunately, he picked on a wrong customer.

Let me take a few minutes to educate this young friend of mine who has since become a shadow of his old self since he was offered an appointment, that makes him look so incompetent, by President Muhammadu Buhari. Any self-respecting soul would have since resigned but Festus Keyamo was not at home the day shame came visiting. The Ministry in which he's a mere figurehead is in total shambles and only a Bola Tinubu would have given the job of a spokesperson to such a certified nuisance.

What did Festus say I did wrong? He quoted copiously from an article I wrote about two years ago, which the Tinubu media teams have been using to campaign endlessly, because they have no stronger voice of their own. I'm indeed flattered.
There is no doubt that I love Tinubu the Man but I disagree vehemently with Tinubu the Politician. This is not the first time I will say it publicly. Since I now have the opportunity of presenting the bones of my disagreement with Tinubu, courtesy of Festus Keyamo, I will lay them bare.
Tinubu has declined in the last few years. I used to see him as a man of his people but no supposed generalissimo would ever abandon his people in the days of trouble and tribulation. None of the people around him could tell him the truth for pecuniary reasons. He knows it himself but he desperately wants to be President of Nigeria, by fire by force, after he has lost most of his formidable foot soldiers, and now relying on outsiders to activate and actualize his lifelong ambition for him, which is his legitimate right. But Nigerians have the right to scrutinise his action plans.
When he was Governor, I supported him from the distance while he surrounded himself with some people who pretended to love him. When he was busy distributing land to journalists in Lagos, I refused to collect my papers because I love my freedom, the reason I was able to tell him truth regularly.
When he was to be impeached for some infractions, and many of his so-called loyalists were washing off their hands clean, like the Biblical Pontius Pilate, my very dear friend, Tokunbo Afikuyomi, stood by him like the Rock of Gibraltar. But how did he repay Tokunbo who took all the bullets? This shameless Festus Keyamo was one of those who wanted to run Tinubu out of town. Nduka Obaigbena and I had to step in at some point before he could consider Tokunbo for anything. Tokunbo had wanted to be the Governor of Lagos State and Tinubu goaded him on and allowed him to waste his resources. It was when I got Chief Harry Akande to give Tokunbo the ANPP Governorship ticket for Lagos State that Tinubu suddenly realised he had offended his "su***de bomber!"
During his battle to stop Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki from becoming the Senate President, we all saw how the younger politician outsmarted him. I had warned him to leave the gentleman alone because no one should play God, but he went ahead until the gentleman floored him effortlessly. During his egoistic battle against Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, I wrote an article asking him not to try it because their marriage was consummated in heaven. Somehow, he backtracked. In spite of him, Fashola continues to remain relevant in Nigerian politics.
Again, when he continued his tradition of "hire-and-fire" and started plotting against Governor Akinwumi Ambode, I buried my love for Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to speak up against the injustice of removing a great technocrat who was doing well in Lagos. The President of Nigeria, the Vice President, the Governors' Forum and many distinguished Nigerians begged him to no avail. He must have his way always. The same personalities are now the people he needs and wants to make him President. Nigeria is looking for a President, with compassion and competence, not an Emperor!
Tinubu is a man who loves to bait the Masquerade with a goat but will never release the rope. That's why he kept losing his best friends like Musiliu Obanikoro, Ambode, Muiz Banire, Opeyemi Bamidele, Rauf Aregbesola, Fuad Oki, Yemi Osinbajo, Adenrele Adeniran-Ogunsanya Babafemi Ojudu, Rahman Owokoniran, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, Aminu Tambuwal, Yakubu Dogara, Nasir El Rufai, Babachir Lawal, Rotimi Akeredolu, Kayode Fayemi, Aro Lambo, Adeseye Ogunlewe, Jimi Agbaje, Ibikunle Amosun, Femi Pedro, Gbenga Daniel, Kofo Akerele Bucknor. Remi Adikwu Bakare, Tunji Abayomi, Tokunbo Ajasin, Mulikat Akande. Chief Dapo Sarumi, Adeniran Ogunsanya Amos Akingba, Bolaji Akinyemi, Mojisola Akinfenwa,
John Oyegun, Godwin Obaseki, Yinka Odumakin, Papa Ayo Adebanjo, Papa Abraham Adesanya, Dupe Adelaja, Toyin Fagbayi, Papa Olanihun Ajayi, Babafemi Ojudu, Prince Dipo Eludoyin, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who seems to be aloof to Tinubu's campaign, and so many others, even if some of them have since reconciled due to political expediency. Tinubu personally decimated the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, after enjoying their massive support when we came back from exile in 1998.
For me, his biggest sin is the fact that he went funereally quiet when APC became a totally hopeless case, just because he's hoping to inherit Buhari's structures.
Lastly, I hope he would have the energy to make himself available for a rigorous scrutiny of his Manifesto. He wants to renew what actually? He wants to turn Nigeria into another Lagos? Many of those who love him genuinely know that the demystification process has started. They wished he had not subjected himself to this agony and anguish. But they can only say so in hushed whispers. Nigerians deserve better. I have been actively involved in politics. I hope Keyamo does not delude himself that I cannot make my own choices. I certainly have, and done so openly boldly. Atiku Abubakar is my choice. He is not a pretender to the throne. He has pursued his dreams with grace, good comportment, self-discipline and uncommon equanimity.
Festus and his gang keep quoting a 2019 article that I wrote. They should go and frame my other writings too. As for that political neophyte called Keyamo, he still has a lot to learn while trying hard to be a lap-dog. He should be reminded that he is still a Minister of State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, paid at tax-payer’s expense. He should learn to moderate his undue exuberance.
I could go on ad infinitum but let's cool temper for now.

Press Statement

PDP Congratulates Adamawa State Governor Fintiri at 55

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) celebrates the Governor of Adamawa State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as he marks his 55th birthday.

Governor Fintiri is an outstanding statesman, very resourceful administrator and distinguished legislator who remains committed to the unity, wellbeing and development of our nation.

Our Party notes with pride Governor Fintiri’s extraordinary commitment to duty as the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly and now Governor of the State. He continues to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence, economic empowerment of citizens as well as human capital and land mark infrastructural development across critical sectors in the State as articulated in the manifesto of the PDP.

The PDP recognizes his excellent delivery of service particularly in legacy infrastructural development; notably the construction of the Yola Flyover in Adamawa State, the first ever in the entire North East region of our country. No wonder the Federal Government recently acknowledged this pioneering feat among others by conferring on him the Nigeria Excellence Award in Public Service.

Governor Fintiri remains a loyal Partyman and our Party appreciates his role as the Chairman of the 2021 PDP National Convention that midwifed the current National Working Committee of the Party. This set in motion our Party’s mission to Rescue, Rebuild and Redirect our nation from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The PDP celebrates this patriotic Nigerian and prays to God to bless him with many more years in good health as he continues to provide service to our fatherland and humanity.

Happy Birthday, Your Excellency

Signed:

Hon. Debo Ologunagba
