Phoebe Turner: joining Sessay Emeralds
WOMEN AND GIRLS CRICKET: Been doing more podcasting on Spotify of late and really enjoying it. Thanks to Phoebe Turner for the interview as part of an episode on Sessay Emeralds: https://cricketyorkshire.com/sessay-emeralds-a-yorkshire-cricket-success-story/
🏏 Her journey began at Thirsk Cricket Club and then a chance invite for a new girls' team at Sessay led her to Yorkshire age-groups, turning pro at Northern Diamonds and now with Durham.
It made me think about the paths we take and the crossroads that lead us in new and exciting directions.
Podcast Clip: Peter Watson (Sessay Emeralds)
The podcast on Sessay Emeralds is going down well. I'll do more in 2025 with a look at different clubs, teams and stories. Here, Peter discusses the impact of Olivia Gain, their first female overseas signing, who finished with 1,192 runs.

✍️ Thanks to everyone who took the time to have a chat at Castleford. I'll have thoughts on cricketyorkshire.com early next week. A superb end to the season. High-quality Premier League cricket that went down to the wire.
🎉 Castleford did a terrific job as hosts. New Farnley will rue what might have been but I thought Alex Lilley led from the front with the ball, as they chased the win.
A mention for Sam Wood's 46 not out for Richmondshire. At 89-6, it was some fightback. 👌
🏆Richmondshire Cricket Club win by 4 wickets, Gary Pratt's 59 not out seeing them home. The first White Rose Trophy for the NYSD.
Another showstopper of a cricket tea by Sue Mulholland, well-known in NYSD circles. Surprise-surprise, I'm camped next to the cake.
In other news, Richmondshire have been set 179 to win. Difficult but not impossible. Spin is likely to feature prominently.
STALWARTS: In late September, when the outdoor season is almost done and dusted, some of you hang up your spikes for the last time.
🙏 Thanks to Yarm Cricket Club who sent us this video of Tom Stafford getting a well-deserved guard of honour after his 62 years at Yarm came to an end.
An NYSD Premier Cricket League Hall of Famer as well as representing Yorkshire & England (Over 60s & 70s), I believe his first game was with the junior team in August 1962.
👏 So, congratulations to Tom (anyone play cricket with or against him??).
🥇 Who are the legends at your cricket club who are retiring who deserve a shoutout?
🏆 TROPHIES: Been sent this video of Hampsthwaite celebrating their title (very politely). What struck me was the size of the trophy. There are some big cups or shields out there to be won, aren't there?
From memory, the Bradford League tends to go in for trophies that require a forklift truck.
🧐 Any other photos of trophies clubs have won this season? Leave a pic in the comments below!
PS: This was about flying bats at Hampsthwaite when Mark D went to visit this season: https://cricketyorkshire.com/hampsthwaite-cricket-club/
Ah, village cricket. I'll assemble some thoughts but I did like getting back to Addingham after a few years. Scenic Aire-Wharfe ground.
Plenty of wooden memorial benches, birds of prey circling above and even off-field support when a car driver slowed down at one point to helpfully yell: "WHACK IT!" 🤣
The pitch was low and slow - as they often are at this time of year - with renovations earmarked for today. Still chances to beat the bat though...
🏏 Addingham Cricket Club 2nd XI 143 ao (Feraz Asghar 36, Josh Addy 4-15, Towhid Ali 4-38).
🏏 Bingley Congs Cricket Club 2nd XI 113 ao (Ryan Baines 24, Steven Kuhl 6-41)
NATIONAL CLUB T20 PLATE: Ackworth Cricket Club are quietly confident that they have what it takes to lift the Vitality Club T20 Plate after reaching the final of the national knockout competition this Sunday 22 September.

I caught up with Jono Gillespie to discuss how the push for national club honours has materialised.
NYSD: A new article ahead of the weekend with an in-depth look at how Richmondshire Cricket Club 1st XI have won the NYSD Premier Cricket League Premier Division - with weeks to spare:

🔥 All-round performances across the squad but 60 wickets from Shafiqullah Ghafari and 600+ runs by Gary Pratt.
🙏 Thanks to Rob Carr, Richmondshire's captain, for the interview.
