The past few days have been intense. Elias’s pain is worsening, leading to a high dosage of medications. He’s experiencing even more pain in his hip, leg, and feet likely due to nerve pressure from the tumor in his T11 area.
We’ve set up pediatric hospice care, and a nurse will start visiting weekly. Radiation therapy is almost complete, with the last session on Friday. We have to wait a month for a scan to see if it is working. Hoping it is stopping the tumor’s growth in his spine and ideally shrinking.
Two chemotherapy options are on the table, each with severe side effects that “might” only extend his life slightly. We are relentlessly exploring alternative treatments and will meet with our integrative oncology naturopath next week.
Lastly, Elias FINALLY received a fitted back brace, which he has been instructed to wear constantly to avoid worsening his condition. We are so frustrated that this confirmation comes so late in this ordeal. Ever since his x-ray showed the compression fracture, we knew he was in a fragile state, and we were the ones who had to ask for the brace in the emergency room. Now, neurosurgery says he should never be without the brace because it could cause a dire injury.
Please keep Elias in your prayers, and pray for us as his parents to follow the right guidance and provide him with the loving care he truly deserves.
