In about an hour, we'll be hosting our second Funding Drive show on Meltdown.

We have made substantial progress towards our show's goal, but can still use your support to take us the rest of the way - and beyond!

To recap, CKCU fills an essential local need of providing independent media that's focused on our immediate community. For 50 years now, the station has provided a valuable service to the area by way of various spoken word shows, cultural programming, and a wide range of musical genres that you don't typically find on mainstream commercial media.

(tl;dr: it's our station's annual Funding Drive, and we'd love your support!)

Hey all,

In just under an hour, we begin our first show of this year's CKCU Funding Drive, the goal of which is to raise 1/3 of the station's operating budget!

As many of you are aware, Meltdown has had a home on CKCU dating back to the early 1980s, making it Canada's longest-running heavy metal radio show. Its long tenure is entirely due to:

1) CKCU providing a home for programming you won't find on commercial mainstream media, including heavy metal; and,
2) Listeners and supporters that want a local radio station to carry heavy metal on its airwaves!

While we play heavy metal from all over the world, our focus has always been on Canadian metal and, in particular, local metal. We try to do our part in this regard by interviewing bands, playing their music, and helping to spread the word on shows coming to the area.

We have long had a lot of support from listeners and others who value having community radio that matters, and we're hoping to again count on our listeners.
