“Eat That Frog” Pt 2

This is a great commentary on the power of personal branding and being seen as the authority in your field.

The concept of eating the frog, or doing the most challenging task first actually came from a quote by Mark Twain which said: “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.”

However, Brian Tracy was able to successfully brand that concept, even titling his best selling book “Eat That Frog” and now the quote is just as often attributed to Tracy’s work and not the great literary figure!

Why is developing a Personal Brand so important?

• Choosing to build your personal brand is a great way to create a competitive advantage for your business. There is only ONE of you, it is literally impossible for somebody else to be you.

If you create a personal brand that shares your story and conveys authority and trust in your industry, your customers will choose your brand because it is represented by YOU.

• Building a personal brand can set you apart and be a competitive advantage whether you run your own business or work for somebody else.

• With digital marketing being so accessible to the masses now, it allows a single person to do what was once only available to large multi million dollar companies. Imagine trying to make a commercial even 10 years ago? Now you can record a video for your business using your phone and have it uploaded that day.

• Creating touch points for your personal brand like a word mark, typeface, brand colours, and language help to solidify your brand and keep your marketing materials and messaging consistent.

True progress in LIFE, BUSINESS, and ART requires that you look past the constant frustration, adversity, and fears that you’re presented with daily. Simply start, and watch as the incremental improvements that so often come on a smaller scale than we hoped inevitably add up over time into something amazing.

Fear is just your brain trying to keep you comfortable. It’s keeping you from becoming who you want to be! This applies to creative endeavours, and life in general. Embrace being uncomfortable!

Rituals over results. Don’t get caught up in chasing a singular result, work on building rituals. This allows you to develop the skills and the mindset to not only reach that specific goal, but to set yourself up for success in the future. Remember it’s the journey not the destination!

Education and personal growth is an ongoing process.
• By cultivating a passion for learning, individuals become motivated to acquire knowledge on new topics, seek out new experiences, and develop new skills.
• This passion can lead to a constant desire to learn and grow, which can help you achieve success in all aspects of your life.
• When someone has a genuine love for learning, they are more likely to embrace challenges, be open to new perspectives, and continue to develop throughout their lives.
By feeding this desire for growth, people can realize their full potential and become the best version of themselves.

ANVL is based on the idea that everyone is creative in one way or another. It’s a person’s unique experiences and perspective that make the ideas they have so valuable. We hammer at these unique raw ideas until only pure design is left, this design not only pleases the eye but embodies the simple beauty of function.

No vulnerability, No creativity.

True creativity starts with putting yourself out there, pushing the envelope and poking at the edges of what’s “normal” or “safe”. That’s how you take your creative work truly memorable!

GET ACTION. Teddy said it best.
What does that mean for your business or any other venture you’re engaged in? It means the best choice is always to do SOMETHING. Your first business plan may not be great, your first post or video may not be great, your first logo may not be great, but you’ve begun. You aren’t idle and win, lose or draw, you’ll be sane.

We know what we’ll be drinking this weekend.
We had an amazing time checking out the progress on Central’s new location in Ellerslie and taking photos of the new Central Cocktails this week. Here are some sneak peaks of some of them - which one looks like it could be your new favourite?

Sorrentino’s Restaurant Group was offering an exciting interactive experience with their cooking classes and needed an edgy, youthful brand to communicate that energy online and to the wider world. Using vibrant colours and a fun ever-changing mix of iconography tiles paired with a clean, engaging, offer-centric wordmark, the brand is more the application overall rather than any single element or logo. The result is a light whimsical feeling that resonates with the customer both online and in person.

Brand videos. A lot of words to—usually—not say much. While rationales serve a vital purpose for new brands and logo designs, wordy and pretentious videos generally only serve to justify an agencies large price tag for minimal reductive logo redesigns. The 3D or ‘chrome’ aesthetic of most car company badges were actually born out of the materiality and production process of what and how they were produced—a CNC’d or milled metal that was then polished to a mirror-like finish. This look and feel was carried forward when badges became extruded plastics with applied chrome sheen for a more cost effective solution. Design-porn aside, it is nice to see that Audi is embracing the materials and their attributes themselves in their brand applications, instead of trying to mimic or recreate the appearance of another material or time. In the end—what the pseudo-Bond villain Marc Lichte said is right—“good design, is less design”.

Audi’s four ring logo dates back to early days of Auto Union and it has been updated countless times over the decades. It's been refreshed once again as the c...

What’s better than a great story? We helped Modern Auto Body tell it by putting together a poster for a recent Porsche event. The owner’s late father’s 911, which he originally purchased in Edmonton and later sold, was found in an alley some time ago and purchased back! It is currently undergoing a complete restoration at their shop.

Telling stories like this is such a crucial part of developing your brand identity, culture, and setting you apart from your competition!
