Aug 2024 - National News - CHICAGO - School Cafeteria worker steals over $1.5 million dollars worth of chicken wings over a 2 year period meant for kids meals while they were out of school during the covid crisis. The children got no meals; she got 9 years in prison. She was eventually caught after an audit showed the school cafeteria was in the red by -($300,000) only a few months into the new school year.

AUG 7, 2024 - Ground Breaking ceremony for new construction of the bypass and 4-lane expansion of Hwy 15 thru Tippah County. The clouds brought some heat relief today as many people attended the event; the Governor, State Senators, other high ranking politicians, all of the county and city elected offcials, MDOT employees, local business leaders and an army of law enforcement and security. The project will be over $200 million and most likely take several years to complete, providing jobs along the way in construction. The good news is; it has started and is funded.

AUG 5, 2024 - Economic news - STOCK MARKETS are dropping as investors cash out. Over night the foreign markets fell dramatically as Japan’s stock market had it’s biggest one day drop SINCE 1987 ! Today the US Markets are following suite and falling. The Dow is down almost 1,000 points or 3% so far today.

July 2024 - The old City of Ripley Public swimming pool. Closed down many years ago and filled in with dirt. Like many things in life, looking at it now, it doesn’t seem near as large as it did from a child’s perspective, back then it might as well have been an Olympic size pool; trying to swim from one end to the other, now it is just a very small grass lawn to mow. The “50ft” high diving board is gone from the deep end… no more whistles from the life guards “no running!” The sounds of splashing, diving, laughing or crying are silent. You can even see the outline of the smaller “baby” pool. Remembering the walk; thru the shaded darker bathroom area, once you paid to get in the gate; to take the mandatory “FREEZING” cold shower only to turn the corner and walk out to a new world of SUNSHINE & Warmth full of people and joy, barely containing your excitement (or fear) to enter the water. parents applying sunscreen to kids and blowing up floats. Bring your own beach towel for drying off later before loading up in the car to go home. Seeing teenagers walking down the hill in flip flops and towels around their necks. Must buy a snack while there, there is nothing on the planet (even more than weed) that will cause your appetite to skyrocket like 10 minutes in a swimming pool ! On a partly stormy day the chaos & fear of whistles blowing and yells of “everyone out of the pool!!” As bewildered and worried people ran for cover under the pavilion huddled up together waiting for the rain to pass over and get back into the water. Tuesday April 30 - 3pm. - RIPLEY - MedVac Helicopter landing at the Tippah County Hospital. Takes major skills to land those helicopters in tight spaces they have to maneuver within.

APRIL 2024 - Much growth happening in Blue Mt. More construction and housing on Hwy 15 in town.

Today the SUN is melting the ice & snow pretty fast even though the temp is still below 32 degrees. And the wind is drying the wet spots. If you wanted to shovel your driveway or make a clear path; now is prob the time to do it before temps fall back below 20 again. (Use caution not to slip, use some kids or grandkids if available! ) also wear SUNSHADES!! ☀️

This shows whats under all that fluffy white powder, thick solid ICE ! A little melts, turns to water, refreezes again, temps drop to single digits ; repeat again. This will continue until Sunday. The snow actually gives you better traction than having removed it.

On the 1st weekend of Dec each year, the city of Biloxi has a Christmas Boat Parade followed by fireworks. Which can be seen from the shore, beaches, piers, road, some hotels. Usually last about 1 hr by the time all the boats make a loop down the shore and turn around.

Saturday night in Corinth the famous OAK RIDGE BOYS performed for their final concert tour; celebrating 50 yrs together singing hit songs. The crowd really enjoyed the show; especially when the low BASS voice singer sang his parts. Corinth has a huge arena for events, capacity over 7,000.

Eating the “Breakfast Buffet” tonight at BUTLER’s. Ooohhh-weeeee. Sooo full! Ate a biscuit & gravy, sausage , bacon, ham, pancakes and waffles with warm syrup and melted butter; scrambled eggs, cheesy grits, hash brown casserole. coffee & juice. Sleeping will come easy tonight! OPEN UNTIL 9pm. constantly refreshing the bar… worth the trip !

Aug 2023 - Ripley losing GM/Chevrolet Dealership. The Car Lot is being sold to another buyer; in which they intend to keep the service shop and possibly add on a body shop, selling used vehicles. The dealership will be no more.

MAY 24, 2023 - Have you noticed the increase in Military Aircraft flying low over Tippah County the past few days? Helicopters and Jets. Today these huge helicopters actually rattled houses.

April 2023 - New Business Opening in RIPLEY. HWY 15 South next to checkers across from Auto Zone & Walmart.
