Hey everyone! Will Bakke here from Beware of Christians and Riot Studios. I've got a new movie out called The Get Together that you can rent ANYWHERE online! Here's a brief summary about my pivot away from Christian films and why Jesus is still king.
A few years ago, after making Believe Me, I was pretty burnt out on making Christian films. I felt like if I continued down that path I would eventually come to a point where I would need to pander to Christian audiences in order to be successful. I was tired of answering the question, “What’s the message of the film?” — it always felt like there had to be an agenda.
Funny as it sounds, I’ve started to believe that Christian films and horror films are really not that different (stay with me). Both genres don’t necessarily require great production value, acting, or a big budget to be successful. The only metric that matters is “was it scary?” (horror films) or “were you affirmed?” (Christian films) — though maybe those are interchangeable...
What I wanted to do was make a film that didn’t have an agenda.
**That said, my friends agree I need to sell out and make Redeeming Love with Tim Tebow and Carrie Underwood as the leads, retire, buy two jet skis and a mansion with a McDonald’s-style ball pit room, and I’M JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE that I will sell out for that idea. One. Million. Percent.**
Which brings us to The Get Together.
At this point in my life, I want to honor God with what I’m passionate about by simply doing the very best work I can because He’s worthy of it. I love this film so damn much because the characters are real, the humor is over the top, and I worked the hardest I ever have to make something really, really fun.
Best part of all, I get to see my friends written into the DNA of these characters. I get to look back at my 20’s when everyone was making big life choices with unwarranted confidence and a belief that no matter how good or bad anyone’s day got, there was always a party at Speedway where you didn’t feel weird for not knowing what you were doing with your life.
I made this for my friends. They are the absolute best. I hope you enjoy The Get Together and share it with your friends. If you watch it and think, “man, same” then that’s about the best compliment I can hope for. Now available to rent on all digital platforms. Enjoy the show!
