In a time when our continent is overwhelmed with multiple social ills; poverty, corruption, injustice, inequality, lack of quality education, lack of power supply and insecurity, we seek to train filmmakers with a vision to tell stories that will tackle some of the continent’s most pressing issues head-on, educate viewers and hopefully pique effective action once the screen’s glow diminishes. Soci
al justice filmmakers who understand that linking a powerful story with a highly developed activist campaign could move public opinion and start a revolution, and to make a film with such power to create change it has to be intentional. High Definition Film Academy is out to be a part of the solution and Script 2 Screen Africa project is the arena where these new generation of Social Justice filmmakers will be forged. Script to Screen is High Definition Film Academy’s yearly Four (4) weeks intensive Hands on Acting and filmmaking training, involving three stages: Training, Short Film Competition, and Awards. The participants are trained and then engaged in a competition to produce their own short films, and climaxes with a premiere of their short films and awards are given to the most outstanding students in each category. High Definition Film Academy has successfully organized this training for five consecutive years starting from its maiden edition in year 2011/2012. This 2017 edition tagged Script 2 Screen AFRICA is an upgraded and rebranded version of the previous editions. It is a REALITY TV Filmmaking project dedicated to raising Social Justice Filmmakers and will span for Eight (8) weeks in the Script to Screen Academy, and additional Twelve (12) months of mentorship for the selected most outstanding students. It is more than just a training or Reality TV show, it is a MENTORSHIP journey for the filmmakers; the birth of a new generation and the beginning of revolution in filmmaking across Africa and the world at large.
