The extraordinary menagerie of animals built up by the 13th Earl of Derby, included many fascinating animals that are sadly today extinct such as Hawaiian Goose. The 14th Earl put this incredible collection up for auction, with many of the animals finding homes in the London Zoo and in Queen Victoria’s own private zoo.
