I had an amazing weekend! Happy to have served and worked with some amazing folks in the industry as we put together this year’s 2023 Living Legends Celebration for the St. Louis Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists. I was able to meet and catch up with friends I haven’t seen in a while.

We honored three amazing individuals who have made a great impact in our community: Laurna Godwin, Founder or Vector Communications; Russ Mitchell, local and former national CBS reporter; and Dr. Donald Suggs, publisher and editor of “The St. Louis American”. We also heard powerful words from St. Louis City Health Director, Dr. Mati Hlatshwayo Davis.

Congratulations to all the honorees and the organization for a wonderful event!

This is an oldie but goodie. A few of my favs mixed together on UNINTERRUPTED’s “The Shop” !!

I like how they spoke of the mentorship aspect because a mentor is always needed. As I’ve grown in my career, I’ve always looked to those who were in our industry and succeeding. I’m always thankful when I connect with others who take time to pour into me as they can give sound advice and examples of what to do and what not to do. Find a good mentor to pour into you as you go on your journey.

Yesterday I attended the inaugural Without Walls Digital Conference on the lovely campus of Maryville University of Saint Louis. There were many sessions for attendees to choose from, I supported my soror/sis/mentor Shuntae Shields Ryan as she presented an informative session about rebranding, I saw old friends and met new friends. This was a well put together one day conference.

In September of 2019, I was appointed by our National President and CEO of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to serve on the National Communications and Public Relations Committee. I have had the honor and privilege of working with this exceptional group since to present webinars, work on guidelines and more for our beloved Sorority. This past week was my first time meeting them in person.

During our 56th National Convention, a few of our committee members presented the information to a standing room crowd of women who will take this information back to their respective chapters. I assisted by providing moral support, helping to answer questions after the workshop and by passing out information.

We also had the opportunity of checking in local media as they came to cover the Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, as she was the keynote speaker of our Social Action Luncheon.

I’ve been blessed with a wonderful experience and I do not take it for granted.

✨If at all possible keep your web links short and simple. I know I can’t remember a long link that includes letters and numbers 🤷🏽‍♀️ Can you?! Don’t put your audience thru that stress.

✨While I’ve been a due paying member for the past few years, my participation in has lacked significantly. Yesterday I attended my first meeting and hope to attend many more. We were also able to listen to a great panel discussion about public relations and journalists working together.

✨I see this so many times!! Remember, if you’re going to put a QR Code out there…please also list the website. Most people are looking at the flyer from the device they need to scan the code with…so if they can’t scan the code, how are they supposed to register for your event??? 🤷🏽‍♀️

✨Please remember you have the ability to control your own narrative. Others may run with stories, but if you get ahead of things and the public hears from you directly, you are controlling your story. Also, remember to be honest with your audience.

I was about to switch my account and noticed my professional dashboard said I had a reach of 1k!! I’m sure that’s nothing to some of you but seeing this made me too happy!!

I don’t have many followers but it’s evident…I’ve got more non-followers checking me out than my followers.

✨This year working with Leslie to prepare for Frizz Fest presented by Frizzy By Nature LLC really stretched me!! I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity. One goal I really wanted to achieve was to get eyes on this event outside of the area…don’t get me wrong…knowing about it on a local level is wonderful…but I truly believe deserves attention from a larger audience. I know it all takes time…nothing happens over night….so I’m grateful for the learning opportunity.

But I was super happy and thankful to see Hype Hair shared the photo in their !! What better platform to display the absolutely stunning hair show produced by Healthy Hair Solutions! If you missed it…you missed it…pictures just don’t do it justice.

🌻Again…kudos Leslie, Val and Ricky - y’all did the damn thang!!

Thank you for having a mini vendor fair on the 9a show this morning to feature / / as they’re only a few vendors who will be at tomorrow’s 5th Annual ! Of course was on hand to give the last few details about the weekend.
