And breathe…. 🤯 What a week, what a day. Over 100 fashion and beauty marketers joined us for our first podcast live event, Social Commerce Summit London 2024 on Wednesday.

So many learnings and great conversations that I can’t wait to share and unpack.

But for now, laptop is slammed shut, gin is in hand and I might just rock myself to sleep in a dark corner 😂 Can’t quite believe we did it but well done .tech team. So incredibly proud of this one ❤️ Bring on New York 🗽

Stop with the meaningless posts. Urghh, I don’t want to be that person, I don’t want to take anything away from what it stands for but it feels like yet another thing for people and brands to use as a way of capitalising.

No I don’t want 25% off jewellery for IWD. I want to hear about the women in your team, especially how many are in the leadership team and what you do as a business to help and support ALL women progress.
I don’t want to read a crappy quote. I don’t want to see empowering memes for you to then bash women behind their backs online. I want to see what IWD really means for you, especially highlighting this years theme to bring big issues to the table. Anyone even know the theme? Because I’ve not seen one post mention it yet 🙈 Its all just making the value of this day not really have a meaning.

I’ve rewritten this post a few times as I wrote about female founders in my life who have mistreated me professionally, but I realised that’s not the thing to focus on.

Ill focus on the amazing female leaders and many inspirational women, peers, co-workers, friends and family that inspire me everyday, past and present. I will cherish that forever and hold on to those relationships. I’ll also hold on to the fact that some things are changing, slowly, and I’ll never ever forgot the power of the female 💪

Slide across for a lovely fireside chat I had this afternoon with the team. This was about the woman in the business together, to connect and to listen. My style up dream team from last year and some promises I still swear by a year on. 👊👏

It’s today. Working in social media for the last 5 years, I’ve become passionate about social media wellness. It’s so important to set boundaries but I know it’s not always possible and easier said then done.
Even the best of us have our moments and can easily be pulled into dark, unproductive, unhealthy habits.

This may not be ground breaking but they are things that need to be remembered at all times.

🤳Only follow people that bring you joy.
🤳Nobodies life is perfect on here.
🤳Use Instagrams hidden words so you can hide particular words, messages, comments, emojis, phases you don’t want to see.

I use to be obsessed with lingerie. I’d much rather shop for a new beautiful set than look for a new dress or shoes.

Pregnancy kinda killed that off but over the last few months I’ve been building up a new collection of pieces that make me feel great.

For me, slipping into a comfortable yet sexy AF bra and knickers can do a world of wonder for your confidence. I have good and bad days with my body and how I view it. But slipping into a nice bra and pants can change it all.

I’m 18months postpartum now and a lot has changed. As I’ve always said, post pregnancy is all about time. Take your time. You may never feel like your body is the same ever again, but my god, the love and appreciation you have for it will be a new found love.

Thank god for ❤️I’m in love with the new trilogy sets. Such dreamy colours, and believe me they are so soft, sleek and sexy. 🧡💚💜

Wishing I had another week ahead where I could wear this beauty again on repeat 🧡

But definitely enjoyed the pleasure of wearing it as it’s not always about owning something, don’t ya think? Good job I have friends like .dammone with the coolest wardrobe to help me power through the week 👊

Lots going on, mentally, physically and emotionally but as November hits it feels like things, although hard, are taking shape this year.

Shopping more sustainable.

Have you taken part in second hand September? I love this initiative set up by to get us shopping and living more sustainably. Those that know me well know I love a good charity and vintage shopping session 🙏

But I also know, I have a long way to go in getting things right when it comes to shopping 100% ethically. It’s not cheap and requires some forethought because they have to be more meaningful purchases.

I also think that brands can be very misleading and fool us into thinking we are being more conscious in our ways (H&M removing their whole conscious line because of greenwashing us and potentially being sued for example! 🙈🤯🤬)

Ahead of transitioning into a new season something that I have done (and recommend) is to assess my own wardrobe. I’ve pulled it all out, picked out pieces that I wear the most and make me feel good and looked at why. Colours, fits, shapes, patterns, the cut?

A new season or life change can shake up how you feel about your personal style so doing things like this will help you understand it more. And is definitely something you need to think about if going out picking pieces to slot seamlessly into your wardrobe! 🙏

Let me know any tips 👇 for how you shop more consciously!

My postpartum belly everyone. Never to be the same again 😬

2nd time round I now no longer believe in ‘bouncing back’ and let’s face it, Instagram is not the best place when insecurities kick in.

I’ve spent hours looking at this belly over the last 16months in the mirror and I could have sworn by 12 months I’d have the flat belly of my previous 21 year old self 🤣
But do you know what, that’s okay. In the last few months alone, I now feel stronger than ever.

The little and often exercise is paying off and people are recognising it, but more importantly I am seeing, feeling and believing that my body is the most incredible and powerful thing I will ever own. 💪 Belly hangs, rolls and wrinkles, everything.

I have a lot more to say but for now, anyone going through the postpartum journey, the only thing I can say is that patience is everything.

Also thank you to for coming into my life. You have been a game changer for the lingerie drawer. My everyday and for all things in-between. The most comfiest sets, and yet that doesn’t mean I don’t feel sexy AF 🙏

Which one were you during yesterday’s outage…. 1 - panicking and refreshing social media apps for 6 hours. 2- enjoyed the digital break. 3. Didn’t even know there was an outage?! For me, when this happens it means I can’t really do my job which can be stressful but one of the biggest things I have learnt over the last few years is that when something is out of your control, you need to just sit back. No amount of stressing will help. FYI I enjoyed the break and went out of a curry 😂

I love what I do. I love having my own business but it takes some guts to ride out the waves.

I feel like I have a learnt more about running a business in the last 6 months than I have in the last 3 years.
Not all of it is in a good way but life lessons not always are unfortunately.

There is no straight career path running your own business. I’m starting to see it more like when you take a pencil and draw it all over the paper. Taking your pencil for a walk was what we called it at school- do you know what I mean? 😂 anyway my point is that it can be scary at times, you have to adapt and it constantly evolves but it also brings that feeling of exhilaration. Especially in a period of growth.

After a weird few months, I’m feeling more ambitious than ever about Style up, what we do and of course how we do it for our brilliant clients.

If you or you know anyone who wants to be part of the style up journey with me and the team we are looking for a pro at paid and organic social - we are hiring! 🙌🏻

We’ve come away for a few days to see some of my best mates from uni. My friends house is gorgeous with a huge garden and all the stuff to entertain the kids all day long. We are very much in our element. BBQ, swim in the stream, wine and hot tub is on the agenda today. We are only 1hr 45mins from home but with the sun out it really does feel like a holiday ❤️

Hope you are all having a gorgeous bank holiday. Don’t forget to tag me, and .nicholls_ for your today so I can look through them with a nice glass of cold rose later 💕

7am style at its best 😂 Spent the best part of two days worrying about money, work, my body and what my next creative adventure would be. The same thing happened when Beau was born 🙄 think the post natal hormones are finally kicking in, but instead of going round and round in my own head (that gets you nowhere), I’ve decided to not let the overthinking thoughts get the better of me. A simple early morning dog walk did the trick today 🙌🏻

6 weeks postpartum.
Not 100% sure why I’m posting this but as it’s and 6 weeks after giving birth kind of feels like a milestone, I thought it felt relevant.
Maybe because I feel it marks the start of a new journey for me. The start of recovery through fitness and exercise. Maybe It’s just for a gentle reminder to not be so hard on myself.

I was carrying an 11lb 1 baby. Look at the size of me 😬 and I honestly don’t know what I was expecting, but when my belly didn’t start to deflate the way it did with Beau, I became deflated.

I will forever be amazed at the female body and what it can achieve. Just look at these pictures. But the thing is, no female body is the same. No birth experience is the same. Yet I know how easy it is to play the game of comparison on here. On pretty much anything. Including seeing other women and comparing your body to hers and wonder why her postpartum belly doesn’t look like yours. It’s a ridiculous game to play.

One thing I’ve learnt over the last 6 weeks, and probably through out this pregnancy is to trust your body. We were essentially designed for growing humans and giving birth. I’m trusting my body is doing what it needs to do naturally to recover, I can just give it a helping hand now. My body won’t look like anyone else’s and I’m actually cool with that 🙌🏻

Swipe through from the night before my C section, Hunter being delivered to the current day 🖤

About Mama And The Wardrobe

Hi! I am Verity and I am the Mama behind Mama and the Wardrobe.

I am a Yorkshire girl who moved to London to pursue a new life with my boyfriend Michael. We had only been dating for 6 months when I made the decision and thought my London life would be filled with swanky restaurants and bars, enjoying London and its sights to the max. At the time I worked for House of Fraser as a Product and Style Advisor within the Learning and Development team and I started to blog about my fashion escapades. I have worked in fashion retail for over 10 years and my career with House of Fraser meant I got to work with buyers and fashion designers delivering, designing and editing content on all the latest trend and style information. My blog was a way to share this experience and my styling knowledge. 3 months into the London adventure, we found out I was 14 weeks pregnant and obviously our life took an unexpected turn. Mama and the Wardrobe came about after I wanted to start blogging about my motherhood experiences as well as fashion.

I lost my way with how to dress for my new mum life and my new mum body and it knocked my confidence. Getting dressed wasn't fun anymore.

So I decided to spend some time detoxing my wardrobe and creating a place with only the clothes I LOVED!
