It features breaking science news, tantalizing easy-to-follow recipes, helpful lifestyle tips, and exhilarating travel stories. The Mediterranean Diet is special. In 2010, Spain, Italy and Greece advocated for it to be granted UNESCO status as an “intangible” heritage to mankind. The request was granted almost immediately. The Mediterranean Diet is the only diet granted this type of UNESCO status.
The Mediterranean Diet harkens back to the wisdom of the ancients, when food was more fresh, locally sourced, and came directly from the land and sea. Hippocrates wrote, Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food. But food is more than just medicine. Food is about enjoyment, pleasure, community, family, friends, culture, the good things in life. Food is a lifestyle choice. That’s what the Mediterranean Diet is all about. As a lifestyle backed by over fifty years of scientific research, supported by the world’s most respected medical institutions, and developed over millennia of trial and error, the Mediterranean Diet makes good common sense. Despite the research evidence, no one really knows why the Mediterranean Diet is so good for you. Is it genetics? Environment? One magic bullet ingredient? Or key ingredients working together? Many foods in the Mediterranean Diet have anti-inflammatory properties. Some experts think that these ingredients work in synergy. My own common sense nature suspects wholism, but the jury is still out. That’s what Titan's Table is about: a quest to uncover the scientific secrets and culinary pleasures of the Mediterranean Diet.
