🙌🗣️ Michael Phelps is the undefeated king of Olympic medals.
He has 28 medals across 4 Olympics (2004, 2008, 2012, 2016)
- 23 Gold
- 3 Silver
- 2 Bronze
History has never seen anyone like him.
His achievements forced me to study his work ethic & mindset.
Here's what I found:
1. Relentless training
Michael trained for 5-6 years without missing a single day.
No, he didn't take weekends off like you and me.
Is this mindset gifted?
NO.
There were days when he didn't want to wake up at all.
But still, he did...
That's what it takes to get 23 GOLDS.
2. Handling stress
You are not where you want to be just because...
You are not ready to handle that kind of pressure & stress it demands.
Michael set an audacious goal that people thought was crazy
But he stood the test of time & met his extreme expectations
3. Visualization
I don't know if anyone has visualized more than Michael ever has
He is the epitome of this exercise
All credit goes to his coach Bob Bowman...he trained him to visualize
4. 10,000 calories per day
I can't fathom this number
Michael used to consume 8,000-10,000 calories per day
I struggle to consume 2,000 calories per day
Imagine the intensity of day-to-day activity he had at his peak
5. Think small
Big goals are not achieved by big steps & big decisions
Big goals are achieved by small day-to-day tasks where you don't give up
Michael didn’t ignore the small things that could ruin his swimming
He did the stretches, cold baths, massages...everything it takes
6. Sacrifices
What are you willing to sacrifice?
Michael gave up his entire childhood to climb to where he is today
Sacrifice is uncomfortable, but Michael built his mental strength to go and
stay in the uncomfortable
That's why the phrase "Success lies outside the comfort zone" exists.
7. Having a rock-solid mentor beside you
Michael never wanted to swim for Bob but without Bob...
He would have never reached where he is
His training regimen was so intense that Michael used to argue and fight with Bob
But when a good mentor speaks, you listen
That's the rule.
