Young Wigan Supermoto Rider About to Compete Against the Worlds Best in Belgium
Wigan Supermoto rider Casey Jones of Springview has been selected to captain Team GB under 21 supermoto team at the forthcoming Supermoto of Nations. All taking place at the legendary Mettet Circuit, Belgium on the 30th – 31st July it is viewed as one of the highest levels of the sport anyone has the opportunity to compete in.
A high honor for someone who has only recently turned 16 years of age, moreover a well-deserved accolade for his sheer commitment to the sport and showing talent way above his age.
Casey has been preparing for this opportunity since his riding career began taking part in motocross events under the guidance of dad (Andy). Since then he has blossomed into a consummate rider, winning many titles including British Junior Title at just 12 years of age, followed by the Under 21 title. He has a series of other accolades to his racing CV; British Academy Champion and British Adult Clubman Champion and now competes against the UKs top riders in the Elite Class of the sport with regular top ten finishes.
There is no finer recognition in the sport of Supermoto than to be selected to represent your country and as soon as Casey received the call his training regime was ramped up to ensure he will be in peak condition when he rolls out onto the start grid in Belgium carrying the title of Junior Team Captain.
Just last week Casey completed his studies and GCSE's at Deanery High School, Wigan, and will shortly take up a position as an apprentice with the NHS, so a busy period ahead for the young Wigan Supermoto ace is on the horizon.
The Supermoto of Nations is best described as the ‘Olympics of Supermoto’ where 20 + counties from across the globe submit a team of three riders to compete for the overall title of champions.
This year Team GB will be fielding both an adult team, plus a first for many years a junior team.
Casey and his fellow teammates are under no illusion that its going to be a tough challenge, but at the same time Casey is focused on leading the junior team to a podium position and has his sights firmly set on lifting a trophy.
Casey Commented:
“I really can’t express how delighted I am to not only to be selected to represent my country, but no greater honor than to be Team Captain. In 2019 I had the opportunity to spectate at the Supermoto of Nations in Paris and at the time managed to have a photograph on the start line with multi world champion Thomas Chareyre. Little did I know just a few years later I could be potentially lining up alongside him on the start line..!
There are so many people I need to thank for getting me here, but most of all my Dad who has been, and is my mentor, pushing me in the right direction. Its all paid off with me hitting the pinnacle of the sport and this has set me on another level for my career path in bikesport.”
For 2022 Team GB are all self-funded, so should you wish to assist Casey in his venture to Belgium then please take a look at his ‘Gofundme Page’ where any contributions will be gratefully received.
