Do y’all think we’re over-reliant on the internet for marketing? 🤔

I remember when an artist would come into town and would buy a bunch of radio ads, put flyers up all over the place, and actually just go out and talk to people. That’s how they got people to show up at the concert!

Word of mouth is such a valuable channel.

But in this digital world, there’s this disconnect I keep running into. And it’s most concerning when I see it in the context of marketing for an event or program that people need to actually show up for in-person. It sometimes feels like if it’s not happening on the internet, it’s not happening.

And some of that might be our fault as marketers, right? We say, “If it’s not online, is it even real?” But what we’re really trying to say is that you should make your online presence reflect your real-world presence.

The disconnect is that people aren’t starting with the groundwork and using the internet to reflect that work.

If you have an in-person event with 30 slots to fill and your target audience is 60-70 year-old folks, but you come to me for a TikTok social media strategy…I start to ask questions. Have you gone to the churches in the area? The senior centers? Have you gone to where these folks already are to tell them about the event? The answer is usually crickets!

Why is it that we default to the internet instead of just going and talking to people?

Takeaways from Angelina:
➡️ View your social media channels like TV shows, and you're the main character.
➡️ Have a consistent posting schedule for your show and respond to your audience with content they like.
➡️ Don't feel defeated if your first few posts don't do as well as you want.
➡️ You need between 50-100 posts to really see how your content is performing
➡️ Try to improve each post by 1%, and your platforms will grow!

🔑 Don't make program enrollment strategy an afterthought.
🔑 Don't assume that if you build it and it's funded, they'll come.
🔑 Don't forget why you're raising all these funds in the first place (the PEOPLE in the programs)
