Thank you again to for the review of Draftee!

In the midst of the tumultuous days of World War II, the clatter of boots and the hum of distant artillery, there existed a tale not often told. It was a tale of valor and camaraderie, but most remarkably, it was a tale told through the keen eyes and perked ears of a stray dog.

In the year 1942, as the United States braced itself for the trials of war, a scrappy canine found himself wandering the roads of Georgia. One fateful day, his path intersected with a group of spirited U.S. Army soldiers marching from Camp Toccoa to the bustling city of Atlanta.

As the soldiers trudged along, their boots kicking up dust in the Georgia sun, they spotted our canine friend. Despite their fatigue, their hearts warmed to the sight of the scruffy pup. In that moment, he became more than just a stray dog; he became a symbol of hope and companionship in the face of adversity. He became Draftee.
Through the eyes of Draftee, the reader experiences the thrill of adventure, the bonds of friendship, and the unyielding spirit of the soldiers who fought for freedom.

Author Chris Langlois is a storyteller with a penchant for the extraordinary, but more than that, he is the grandson of Easy Company medic Eugene Roe. Chris’s words along with Dawn Secord’s illustrations breathe life into this story.  Through the pages, Langlois honoured not only his grandfather’s legacy but also the countless heroes who served alongside him. In a world torn apart by war, Draftees tale reminded us that courage knows no bounds and that even the smallest among us can make a difference in the fight for freedom.

There is a notable scarcity of books tailored for school students delving into the experiences of American soldiers during World War II, particularly focusing on paratroopers. However, this book breaks the mould with its captivating storyline, tracing the journey of a paratrooper within the renowned Easy Company 506th from the 101st Airborne Division.

It navigates through pivotal moments of the war, from the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor to the intense training of the paratroopers. The book gives us the monumental D-Day in France, operations in Holland, the harrowing Battle of Bastogne, and finally, the conclusion of the war.
The artwork is exquisitely done, enhancing the narrative and ensuring engagement for readers of all ages. The writing strikes a delicate balance, ensuring that children grasp the concepts of loss and sacrifice inherent in war, while also paying tribute to the courageous paratroopers. Throughout, it showcases the bravery and resilience of the US Army Airborne during some of their most challenging moments in history.

This book is a must-buy for any young World War II or military history enthusiast in your midst. It serves as an invaluable tool for explaining the complexities of war and the role of paratroopers to children. Moreover, for those with a personal connection to the Airborne, purchasing this book is a meaningful way to impart the significance of this chapter in history to the younger generation.
Authored by Chris Langlois, grandson to medic Eugene Roe of Easy Company, this book has  left a legacy in words. Not only to Chris`s grandfather, but to all the paratroopers of Easy Company. It is now up to us, the next generation, to keep the history alive.
