My heart is full! Thanks for everyone who came out and backpacked with us! It was a gnarly wheel-in but totally worth it to have a full cooler, big stoves, and fajitas!

Thank you to .hike for joining us! Had a blast and thank you for bringing Loteria (last photo). I’m going to add that to my car camping checklist!

We had a total of 17 people, and it was an amazing, fun, and adventurous crew. If you want to join, comment below, DM me, join the discord and email list.

Note:
😄Gnarly .9 mile uphill, longest mile in my life! Lol
🏕Karl the Fog welcomed us Sunday morning, no view at the top
🌃Clear skies at night so we had a 360 view of the Yay Area , and no one was around
💔 Immigration Station - visiting was heavy. They had a new exhibit about the border. My heart ached, and that caught me off-guard since I didn’t know they had current events about immigration.
⛴ Saturday 5pm Campers only ferry was legit. We were the only people on-board!
🐝 Thank you for the fuel and electrolytes!

Cannot wait to do another camping trip. As I’m navigating this space, I’m trying to figure out the best way to do and coordinate camping trips.

❤️Camping with others is my favorite, along with showing others the way, whether it’s for camping or backpacking. And if you need, let me know! I’ll be happy to let you borrow some until you find out what you need and want.

I’m thinking that gear rentals are in the new feature!

Note:
I don’t make a profit with camping trips because it’s illegal to make a profit on public lands. One day I’ll work with the parks to see how I can work with them. But until then, it’s just “let’s camp” and see who comes, how to keep this going, make it better, and see how to turn this into a business, of course. I’m thinking Gear Rental, we will see! Well, the option with minimal liability. Lol.

Aside from that, if you’re interested joining us for a camping trip, comment below, DM me, join the discord, sign up for emails! I’m an open book, so ask away and I’ll fill you in!

Note:
I don’t publicly announce the fine details like campsite location and itinerary because I don’t want randos showing up.

Last Saturday I had the privilege to hike Coyote Ridge AND with two amazing people, .luna.lover and , and we saw so many wildflowers! 😍Swipe to view the beauties!

Coyote Ridge Open Space preserve is only open to the public for about 2-4 weeks a year. Public Access was only open for 2 weekends this year. You have to RSVP (free), and it sells out ASAP. Perk: you are guaranteed parking, it’s not crowded and you can see the wildflowers with no crowds! 😱🤯🎉

Usually it occurs in April, but due to Climate Change and lack of rain, the flowers are blooming now, so the show must go on NOW and before it turns brown 😢😭, probably in April.

So Coyote Ridge is on rare Serpentine Soil, as a Result it supports a wide range of unique and rare plant and animal life! So many native species in this preserve. And it’s mandatory to clean your shoes (by dipping it in provided water) to ensure to not introduce anything non-native over here.

There were huge signs that explained about the land, soil, flowers, rocks, and etc. With the friendliness of the staff and volunteers we were able to spot lots of cool things and we were able to find out where we should find the checkerspot butterfly and where we might see the Tule Elk, which is best to have binoculars for it!

So cool, right?!

I have to thank Stephen for letting me know Public Access Days RSVP is coming. it’s RSVP only and it sells out ASAP. Yes it’s free!

In my stories to my close friends, I notified to anticipate the RSVPs to open. As soon as registration was opened, meaning as soon as I checked the website I had told people through my stories to sign up, and send an email blast.

So happy to find out that a lot of people signed up and took advantage of this opportunity. It reminded me to keep sharing about things like this so others can seize it.

Note: I might not be active on IG, but my email newsletter includes this info. So sign up for local hikes, local news, and sign up for general stuff too. Link is in bio! Ex: Halfdome should be on your radar!

Anyway that’s my IG blog entry for the month. 😅. Did you miss my IG rambles? 🤪

Happy International Women’s Day! Thank you to all who continue to support, inspire and lift one another to get to where we are today.

This year’s theme is , and here are photos are me finishing up the Pacific Crest Trail while being fiercely Latina AF! 😁💪🏽

As a reminder, there is not “a look” for when it comes to the outdoors, and we should not judge people when recreating outside. This is someone who backpacked 2500 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. Yes, 2500 miles! 💪🏽

Yes, that’s wearing a skirt, long sleeve, yellow shoes, red lipstick, 💄and a hot pink F***y pack that was probably designed for raves 😅. And that includes purple pants that make me feel like I’m Selena on the trail!

We need to break the bias from the trail whether if it’s unconscious or implicit. It happens a lot, and last year my article got blocked from printed magazine publication when I talked about. That got moved over to , thanks again!

TBH that’s another reason I’m pushing to embrace my Latinidad and femininity on the trail due to this continued bias. We are out here, I’m here breaking those barriers + stereotypes. We can be leaders and we can also be strong and s*xy too! 💅🏽🙌🏽

I’ll hop scotch those rocks in that river or lead hikes in a skort and red lipstick!

Anddddd If you would like to support me, join me with my hikes, camping trips, and backpacking trips. Or spread the info to others who would appreciate it and would want to join in on the fun while learning cool outdoor stuff!❤️Pinnacles NP camping trip is in less than 2 weeks!

New hairdid, who’s dis? And Did you know getting your hairdid can be seen as selfcare?

Actually selfcare is up to your interpretation, and you can count a haircut as one. Anyone relate? 😁

Ok seriously, I’m feeling like Luisa from Encanto. And who knew squeezing in a haircut can be so challenging⁉️ What did 2020 do to us?! 🤪

TBH I had to forgo the option of doing a long hike tomorrow to get my haircut today. We’re moving on Sunday, and I’m traveling to Texas the next day. What’s after that? When will there be free time to make a quick run to SF?

I can hike any other time. In the meantime, I’ll appreciate my local walks tenfold, and when I get back out there for a long hike, I’ll probably never want to go back and then camp all the time. Lol. Anyway, lesson - priorities!

Anyway, thanks for reading my blog/journal or IG post.

Sending much love to everyone and as a reminder.

➡️Group hikes + camping trips start in March⬅️. I have a group spot at Pinnacles NP in mid-March, anyone want to join? Yes, that means you need to sign up for my emails.

My latest newsletter has all the deets! Click the link in my bio to read all about it!

Had a fantastic girls weekend that included exploring a new wine region, and didn’t realize we were technically glamming 😅😂.

Enjoyed our stay in Sommerset and will be coming back again! We got to visit our friends at , which I would highly recommend too. Wine is 😚👌🏽We watched the sunset too, that was a fantastic ending and we grabbed dinner at the Creekside Cork & Brew, I would recommend getting dinner there too!

We found an tiny Airbnb, that had beautiful views of El Dorado.

Cannot wait to visit and now that I have a better sense of the area, it will be easier to plan things around. There are over 10+ wineries, I’d say 15 or close to it within a short distance. And TBH we will probably end up camping at Conduit Winery since they offer camping and glamping (big tent with queen sized bed)too. That sounds like a fantastic time to me, right?

I’d definitely recommend anyone checking out the area (in el Dorado County) and planning a mini getaway Without traveling too far and while feeling you’re far away from home in a remote area ❤️.

And camping isn’t preferred (if you need running water, kitchen, and heater), the spot we stayed would be perfect for you. My friends who aren’t into camping but love the outdoors enjoyed it all. so there’s something for everyone! ❤️

Hello 👋🏽! Announcement! Thought this is the best recent picture to showcase the emotions we’re having on our life journey. Please ignore the sweater I’m borrowing too. Go Pack Go! Who’s the Texans? 😅🚮

Announcement: There is News! But the “News” will be shared next month or maybe in March. We’ll see 🤷🏽‍♀️. 😂🤣

I’ll be disclosing some info in my upcoming monthly newsletter, which y’all should sign up for if you haven’t yet! Link is in my bio!

It’s the information and deets that I don’t share anywhere else! That includes about my life and biz updates.

I’ll include information about monthly group hikes.

February’s date is tentative. I’m waiting for a piece of information to confirm that date. But the East Bay’s group hike is still on!

I limit the info I share on social and publicly because I don’t like sharing exact deets in fear of the creeps out there.

As a womxn who have been stalked and I still fear walking to my car at night til this day - I take into consideration knowing every single person’s info before disclosing the info where to meet. Safety first! I got you!

Stay tuned for details and in my newsletter I’ll include key dates to look out for reserving even for day-hikes like Angels Landing. Hoping to send the newsletter on Saturday afternoon.

Until then, I’ll be in posting here when time is available because with the recent news and things going on - my free time is closing in and I’ll need to shift my priorities stat. FRW I’m pursuing my California naturalist certification February-May too - soOo that will be a factor.

Aside from that, hope your year is off to a great start or will steer that way soon.

Tip + Reminder:
winter is my favorite time to cross-train for hiking and backpacking. Weightlifting/Strength Training is your bestie if hiking and backpacking isn’t an option or maybe you want to switch things up. It’s how I prepped to hike 2300 miles of the PCT 5 years ago and to section hike 230 miles in 2 weeks in the Sierra last year. 💪🏽

⬆️This!!! ⬆️This has been on my mind lately especially since I joined a gym on December 31th and had anxiety- “am I now that person That signs up for the gym in the new year? I am that person that is taking up someone else’s space at the squat rack at 6am?
Am I doing the new year, new me thing?

Then I thought to myself, wtf are these thoughts? Lol. 😂🤣

TBH this is the third attempt of health goal intentions and I know I will crush! 2020 was a wash, I bulked and started my cut week when everything started shutting down. Lol. I called it the never ending bulk 😂. and 2021 - I couldn’t set the real goals I wanted because I was limited with I had at my home gym, which I am grateful to have that but then my passion faded when fall arrived. It just disappeared into thin air and completely fizzled after my wedding.

So I digged and digged and realized I needed to go back to the gym. I found my motivation and passion there and it’s the best feeling in the planet- to refind my love, passion, motivation, and I feel frickin great! It inspires me to live a healthier lifestyle and be more mindful with what we eat. So Cheers to ending my 2 year bulk/recomp!?! 🤷🏽‍♀️💪🏽

I’m grateful I can go to the gym, and I can only wonder how others feel right now or where they are in their Health and wellness journey.

As much as we all wish we can have a fresh start on January 1st, it’s not possible for everyone especially as people might get sick.

So I’m just sending all my love, compassion, and support to anyone trying to navigate where/how to start their wellness and health goals however it looks like.

And we should be mindful of that. We shouldn’t judge or criticize anyone and no one has time for that either.

Anyway, thanks for reading my post turned IG blog post.

Just thought to share to remind others to be kind and case any of this resonates with anyone. I’m just like y’all too, and I’m that gym newbie at who is finally going cut after 2 years of bulking 😂🤣😁🙌🏽🤷🏽‍♀️🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

Has your battery drained suddenly during the winter?

There is a reason for it, it’s because our phones are designed for 32* and under. It’s best to keep your phones close, yes I know it’s tempting to put it away, but store it somewhere warm, like your inner jacket pocket.

If you’re camping, sleep with your phone. This is the one time I would suggest to sleep with your phone, like in your sleeping bag.

Hopefully this carousel of tips helps out! Last year I did a Reels, but thought this could be more informative format and it’s easier to share especially since It’s Winter.

And if you have questions about Satellite 2-way communicators, I have an in-depth blog post about it and the cost comparisons between spot vs garmin and what I prefer, which is Garmin.

And is there is anything type of content, tips, advice you would like to see? I have things to share but I’m unsure if there is anything pressing because TBH I don’t read minds. 😅😁

Did you know I also podcast? One of favorite was just released recently with !

Swipe right to learn How to harness your feminine energy to your advantage! Even better - listen to our most recent podcast episode if you want to dive deeper into this discussion.

On our podcast episode We talk about periods, how to relieve cramps on the trail, s*x in the outdoors, how to keep it clean down there, and we bust myths too.

Special thanks again to for being such a wonderful guest. She inspired me to download so I can plan my more adventurous trips around the best times, and also helped me shift perspectives about being a women and how we can use it to our advantage. And of course when I’m in my luteal phase, I should take it easier on myself.

Hope you enjoy this episode, we have been waiting to release this episode for months and hope this encourages you to shift perspectives into something beautiful and encouraging.

Go Best Friend!

In all seriousness, I get so excited to see my cardio based fam incorporating weight lifting or some type of strength training especially now.

Instead chasing miles to seize the least of amount of daylight, people opt for the gym when it’s dark to help them train and prep for their outdoor adventures whenever it happens.

Reminder 1:
Weight lifting is your friend, and it can help you stay strong, get stronger, and help prevent injury.

This is the time of the year when I lean into lifting and next year (ok in two weeks) Stephen and I decided we are getting gym memberships again. It’s cold AF, and it will encourage me to get up in the morning to workout by 8am.

Reminder 2:
Cross-training is ok and it’s ok to change up your goals based seasons like Winter. You are still a runner, cyclist, hiker, or whatever if you add weight lifting. And when you do add anything to the mix: embrace it and have fun with it. Don’t make it a chore, unless that is what drives you. Maybe that’s your cup of tea? Cool!

Anyway, anyone switching goals for winter? Who still has a gym membership and who’s thinking about getting theirs back?

Gen Pop: Have you ever experienced knee pain going uphill or downhill?

We’re back and with a hiking tip! Good news this tip doesn’t require gear but it requires your 🍑!

Reminder: I’m not a personal trainer but I did read the book, so I’m knowledgeable and I want to provide a basic education. I’m not an expert.

My biggest tip is to remember to use your muscles when going up and downhill. Every time you experience discomfort in your knees, ask yourself, “Am I really using my muscles or knees?” Feel your ass, hammies, and quads if you want to make sure.

Your ass is one of your strongest and largest muscles, use it!

Note: if you want to get stronger and expedite the process - tip: lift weights.
Hiking is a good workout but its still cardio at the end of the day. If you want more and to get stronger - the gym or strength training is always there.

Hope you like this video. It’s purely educational and not for likes either because anything over 8+seconds and 30+ gets around 500 views and ranks the chance of getting viral of seen since the video completion rate is much lower = not what IG thinks is successful.

It’s a new month! What does that mean to you?

For me, it’s time to go back to the regular scheduled programming. The past is in the past and we lived the good life last week.

And that’s my best advice to anyone who is currently thinking if they need to overcompensate for the lack of movement or if they overindulged.

Or better yet, revise your December goals so it’s something attainable if it doesn’t fit your December lifestyle.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I wanted to give this reminder because it’s so easy to fall under the pressure or impression that we need to “catch up”. Let’s get that out of that fabricated thoughts. It’s all made up!

It’s all about perspective, your perspective! Yep, it is a choice made by you.

And a few days doesn’t define you or everything you accomplished! It’s just a day, few days, or month. Remember that! You are ok and an awesome human and a badass.

So if anyone is in a similar position like me, Let’s press reset and let’s do this again from the top as we have been doing for weeks and months. We got this! Let’s gooooo!

Ps check out my Bay Area group hikes if you need accountability in December!

Today I had a fantastic time hiking with a fellow Latina Poderosa, ! She’s a wildlife biologist and a wonderful photographer. Thanks for the pictures too!

When it comes to wildlife and vegetation, she’s the most passionate and knowledgeable I know.

This hike was so much fun. We found various types of fungi and spotted one Newt.

We hiked at Sanborn County Park, which is managed by Santa Clara County Parks. It offers hike-in camping, RV camping, and it neighbors Castle Rock. You can extend the Skyline to Sea Backpacking route too. Yes, that’s in my mind! Lol.

Looking forward to future hikes and camping trips. You’re energy and love for the outdoors is contagious - I’m now more than convinced to take that California Plants and Animals class for Spring.

Ok here are the deets about Sanborn. Have you visited here and how’s your weekend going?

Ecosystem:
“Influenced by the coastal summer fog and accompanying breezes off the summit. The park has predominantly north facing slopes. The exposers suppers a mixed evergreen forest of oak, madrone, Douglas fir, tan oak, and redwood.” Sanborn Park Brochure + Map (pick one up if you visit)

Entrance Fee:
$6

Fur friendly:
🐾Yes! 🐶

Camping (walk-in):
Tents allowed on walk-sites, it’s a walk, so bring your packs, or bring something to wheel it in.

Hours:

Had so much with .hike today! We did the Cowell Highlights loop, which can be confusing if it’s your first time. It took me 3 times over here to figure it out and I’m thankful I led this hike so they get straight to the fun! Oh state parks!

Did you know this park has 4 different types of ecosystems? It’s like a scavenger hunt for me and I love seeing how the land changes so quickly.

My biggest tip for hiking here:
Download the Map prior and print it out if you can. One part of the park isn’t on Google Maps or AllTrails 🧐🤯.That route isn’t listed and it’s not well marked 😩, yepppp.

Second Tip:
Do the Cowell Highlight route Counter Clockwise. Get the uphill out of the way asap. And it’s steep too!

I prefer to have steep uphills over steep downhills. Anyone can relate? TBH this 33 year old feels 👵🏽 with steep downhills.

I messed up my knees running 40-50 miles a week with Nike Frees and on concrete as a teen. Sooo my knees doesn’t certain things like steep downhill (another reason I love trekking poles). So if you know what I what, do this route counterclockwise and your knees will say thank you!

And who’s ready for the next South Bay Group Hike?! 🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏽‍♀️

Did you know between 2017-2020 Between 2017-2020, 69 people marked “Hispanic” (Latinx/Latine) when answering the ethnicity question on PCT Trail Completion Form.

Note: This form is voluntary and it is challenging keeping statistics on how many people actually complete the trail.

To clarify: I love everyone who I meet who I meet on the trail, especially Women on Color, and Latinas. It’s magic.

But meeting a Latina who backpacked the PCT is more than everything I could imagine or ever wanted and I only wished I could have met her in 2017, when backpacking the PCT.

Right now, I couldn’t be more grateful to have met you V, and now I feel more inspired continue meeting people like you. You are an inspiration to the outdoor community and we need more people like you. Never stop being you, and continue showing up.

And that goes to anyone who continues to show up for our community. You are needed!

Anddds if you are not following V and you love the outdoors, follow her and get inspired AF.

Have you met anyone who have met that you felt an instant connection, and are like - I think we are BFFs?

There’s nothing like spending time with friends, right?

The pandemic has made me appreciate all time we had spent together and how we always made the most of hanging out when we did.

Fun fact: did you know I had co-founded and ran “Htown2Cali”, a community of displaced Houstonian Sports Fans in the Yay area?

Monica and I founded it in August 2012. We were the only 2 people standing at a random bar in the Mission (SF) for a Texans vs Niners preseason game.

We kept meeting at 10am for Texans game and continued to meet other fans. Our group grew during the playoffs, Rockets, and Astros. We would pack the bar and got interviewed by ABC, CBS, and NBC. When I had backpacked the PCT and moved out of SF, the group hasn’t been the same. But I’m still happy I met some of my most favorite people in the world, who is also known as my Bay Area fam. They are like brothers and sisters. Well, I was their little sister to them all! Lol.

And I couldn’t be luckier to have such fantastic friends who threw me a pandemic bachelorette party and kicked it off with an Astros vs A’s game. Tears of happiness were shed, the big day is coming, and I couldn’t be happier to have the best bride squad who made me feel so happy and loved. Thanks y’all and Lareina, we missed you so much! Thanks for the bubbles. ❤️

10.8.21 here we come. Anyone has recs of last minute things I should think about for being a pandemic bride and At SF City Hall?😁
