This is some of my notes that I wrote down in my last Christology lesson, which is a study of the Deity of Christ and His claims. I am absolutely loving this college. Christians for the past 2,000 years have believed Jesus was and is God There's tons of other scriptures that I could post but this is already going to be kind of a long post. I hope you find it useful and that it causes you to want to dig in the Word of God. These aren't in any particular order by the way.
"All things were made by him (Jesus); and without him was not any thing made that was made." John 1:3
"For by Him (Jesus) all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist." Colossians 1:16-17
"But unto the Son (Jesus) he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom." Hebrews 1:8
"And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him." Hebrews 1:6
Jesus heard that they had put him out, and finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?” Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and He is the one who is talking with you.” And he said, “Lord, I believe.” And he worshiped Him. John 9:35-38
Thomas answered and said to Him, (Jesus) “My Lord and my God!” John 20:28
"Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ," Titus 2:13
"And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus worship God:" Revelation 19:10
"The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." Revelation 4:10-11
"(for you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God)," Exodus 34:14
And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” Luke 4:8
Only God is to receive worship. The angels worshipped Jesus, Thomas worshipped Him and so did many others and Jesus not one time told them to stop worshiping Him like John did in Revelation 19:10. And the Pharisees knew EXACTLY who Jesus claimed to be and they wanted to kill Him for His claims.
“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23
"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh." Matthew 2:11
"Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!" Psalm 95:6
"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth," Philippians 2:9-10
"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” Matthew 18:20
Only God can be everywhere at once. God is omnipresent. That means that he is present everywhere at all times, from the universe's beginning until its end.
"I and the Father are one.” John 10:30
"And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was." John 17:5
Jesus and the Father have ALWAYS been together even before the world was created. Jesus created everything that was created and that exists.
"Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God." John 5:18
"...And I will not give My glory to another." Isaiah 48:11(c)
"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another," Isaiah 42:8
God WILL NOT share His Glory with ANYONE.
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:
GOD WAS MANIFESTED IN THE FLESH,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
PREACHED AMONG THE GENTILES,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory." 1 Timothy 3:16
When the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask John the Baptist who he was, John quoted Isaiah speaking about Jesus... "Then they said to him, “Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?”
He said: “I am
‘The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Make straight the way of the LORD,’” John 1:22-23
And this is what John quoted about Jesus in Isaiah...
"The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
“Prepare the way of the LORD;
Make straight in the desert
A highway for OUR GOD. Isaiah 40:3
Would John just randomly quote this about Jesus? And why would Jesus let people worship Him, be able to raise the dead and all the other things that He did, as well as His claims about who He was and all the scriptures that say what they do about Jesus if He isn't God?
