Dear radio friends,
We are coming back after a brief hiatus August 20 as a monthly on the third Sunday of each month on WBCQ The Planet 7490 kHz on the shortwave bands from 6pm-7pm ET (currently 2200-2300 UTC). This is a time share with our other program, From The Isle of Music (on the first Sunday of each month) and Julio Cesar Pereira's Ginga Brasil! (on the second and fourth Sunday). When there is a fifth Sunday it will be Doug's Comedy Favorites.
We will have two special guests on the 20th. Storms will be with us from India in the first half hour to present his new South Indian devotional music-jazz-fusion album by The Indica Project, Aum. Irina Sarbu will be with us from Romania in the second half hour to present her new jazz album At the End of July.
If you can't catch us with your shortwave radio (some parts of Europe may have interference from other stations), we are not available on demand, but you CAN catch a livestream DURING THE BROADCAST ONLY at wbcq.com or use a web sdr (we do honor reception reports using web sdrs if you listen to the whole show and let us know which one, we also respond to correspondence if you listened on line).

We're back! As a monthly, but still....
First Sunday of each month beginning August 6 from 2200-2300 UTC (6-7pm EDT) on 7490 kHz, which also livestreams (NOT ON DEMAND) on wbcq.com. This month: some selections from recordings recognized in Cubadisco 2023. There are shorter introductions and closing segments now to allow more time for music.
Be sure to tune in every week though - weeks two and four have Julio Cesar Pereira's Ginga Brasil! and week three has Uncle Bill's Melting Pot.

Effective with tonight's broadcast (10pm-12pm EDT or 0200-0400 UTC Tuesday), Radio Angela moves from 4790 kHz to 5130 kHz. This will get us free of CODAR and hopefully give us roughly the same coverage area with a better listening experience for most people.

Honored to have the tip of the spear for this.

WBCQ's new Radio Angela service on 4790 kHz begins its regular schedule of programs on Tuesday, March 1 world date at 0300 UTC (Monday, February 28 at 10pm EST US time and date). We will be posting our schedule here over the weekend. Two special events lead up to that:
1. On Sunday 0200-0400 UTC (Saturday 9pm-11pm EST US), we will air a sneak preview of WBCQ Concert Hall, our new 2-hour weekly opera and symphony program
2. On Monday 0300-0500 UTC (Sunday 10pm-Midnight EST US), we will air A Taste of Radio Angela, which will include clips from all of the shows in our first wave of new programs. Most of these were deliberately held back from our test cycle, and you will find that the lineup has something for nearly everyone musically speaking with some radio drama to boot.
We will be offering airtime for sale outside this special two hour per night program block. Come join us in this exciting effort to build a new cultural and entertainment institution on shortwave!

Well, the cat is out of the bag now...
Angela and Allan Weiner at WBCQ have given me (they are sponsoring) a 2-hour nightly program block to curate on 4790 kHz with propagation testing in February and regular broadcast schedule starting in March. In addition to my programs and some great programs from other radio veterans there will be some new shows currently under development. This will be a true global undertaking with program content from multiple countries around the world. If the effort kills me, well, what a way to go!

Perú le canta a las Américas (Peru Sings To the Americas) In honor of the bicentennial of Peru's independence, a special hour of Peruvian music hosted by Luis Alejandro Vallebueno with guests
including "Uncle Bill" Tilford will air on WRMI, which is
sponsoring the program. It will be in Spanish and directed towards Central and South America, but the back end of the transmission should be listenable in much of North America. The music will be a combination of world-famous artists and others probably not known outside of Peru. Thursday, July 29th, 0300-0400 UTC (Wednesday July 28 2200-2300 Lima Time) on 5800kHz via WRMI.
