This picture was one of my very first photographs out in Alberta. I remember seeing the scale and beauty of these mountains and the feeling it gave me of insignificance. You feel so small surrounded by these giants and that your problems or stressors just don’t matter.

The sunset was incredible watching the colors change over the snow capped mountains.

I keep coming to this same place by the water for golden hour for this exact reason. I’m drawn to the colors and energies of sunrises and sunsets and skies going off with their pastel tones.

This is a place I would always go to for the best sunsets in Montreal. I would always wonder why there wasnt a lot more people who knew of this place, as I would often have it all to myself.

Over the years, and especially after the pandemic this place is no longer a hidden gem. It’s hard if not impossible to have it all for yourself.

The great thaw.

The first time I ever picked up a camera and started taking photos was right here. Not having an idea of how composition works, how to focus foregrounds and backgrounds, etc.

It turns out that later on during my photo workshop, I learned that my natural vision and eye was not too off from the real “parameters” of landscape photography. But lets be honest, its pretty hard to take a ‘bad’ photo when you have these conditions and these mountains as models to work with 😉

Flyin back to the rockies for spring!

This was one of those photographs where we have no time to compose because the birds coming into frame wasn’t planned. But once the photo is taken and checked out afterward, we realize it worked!

These ice chunks were pretty cool to see and capture as it doesn’t form every year. 🧊🧊

My very first attempt at astro photography.

I was driving back from a long day out in the icefields and I looked up and the sky was completely blanketed with stars. I decided to make a pitstop at lake louise to have a go at it. And this is the end result.

I took a few compositions but to be honest I have learned and gained a new respect for those who routinely do astrophotography - it’s not easy. You’re in the pitch black in silence… imagine how scary that is for a moment and to think I was at a “popular” spot and it still felt uncomfortable and foreign and then top that off with being in the freezing cold. It takes a lot of courage to do this often.

I think theres some kind of star constellations in the sky here like a big dipper or small dipper maybe? I’m not sure - maybe someone more skilled at this can let me know in the comments?

Let me know if you see anything and what you think of my first time shooting astro
