Thailand recently welcomed back eleven repatriated antiquities from the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in New York on September 16th. These returned cultural items, including Buddha statues and ceramic vessels, were recovered from an investigation into the illegal trafficking of looted objects from Southeast Asia. Matthew Bogdanos of the Manhattan DA's Antiquities Trafficking Unit oversaw the handover to Consul General Somjai Taphaopong. This marks the second significant repatriation of Thai artifacts from New York, bringing the total returned to 24 items.
