Cole Porter's classic song, Night and Day, provides the theme for this week's edition of Todd's Turntable. Todd Gordon has chosen outstanding versions of songs such as The Night We Called It a Day, When Day Is Done, One Day I'll Fly Away, You and the Night and the Music, and more.
There are also some rare gems such as The Day the World Stopped Turning by Johnny Hartman and Some Fine Day sung by Marlene VerPlanck.
Tune into Todd's Turntable, here at Adore Jazz on 1.FM tomorrow (Saturday) at 3pm GMT.
This week, Todd Gordon is celebrating the lyrics that set up the chorus: the verse. Often, in Broadway shows in particular, the verse was merely a vehicle to reach the catchy melody. But some are so beautifully crafted they warrant better appreciation.
Here's a prime example, Ira Gershwin's verse to The Man I Love:
When the mellow moon begins to beam
Ev'ry night I dream a little dream
And of course Prince Charming is the theme:
The he for me
Although I realize as well as you
It is seldom that a dream comes true
To me it's clear that he'll appear
Someday, he'll come along
The man I love...
And for Todd's Turntable the version Todd has chosen is by Carmen McRae.
Tune into Todd's Turntable, here at Adore Jazz on 1.FM. only the finest Vocal Jazz. 24x7. tomorrow - Saturday - at 3pm (GMT) for this and many more great songs with great verses.
