Once again this stuff is getting traction and there is no reason for it. If this was a true post then you would think the Police Department would be sharing the information. It is a spamming post and makes you a victim to share these posts. The scammers now know this is an active account and a target. Please send a message to the PD if you have questions before you share. This same messages have appeared on these types of garage sales sites that are NOT locally created. This one is out of Africa originally as I have posted before. A quick way to check is to look up the poster and see who they are...if not from this area it's a scam.

Native American Heritage Month Celebration held at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa Coordinated by Joseph Wright, Criminal Justice Coordinator and Associate Instructor along with his daughter and Criminal Justice Work-Study Student, Nikita Kirsch.

On November 6, 2024, the Student Resource Center on the Iowa Central Community College Campus in Fort Dodge, Iowa, hauntingly beautiful sounds of Native American Music filled the air, courtesy of Native Pride Productions, founded by Larry Yazzie. Mr. Yazzie led two powerful performances of Native music and dance along with his son. Larry Yazzie is a two-time World Champion Fancy Dancer, Men's Northern Traditional dancer, and Eagle Dancer. Larry grew up on the Meskwaki Tribal lands in Tama, Iowa, where he learned the traditional ways of his ancestors.

Larry Yazzie founded Native Pride Productions to give back to his community and the world. Through music, dance, and storytelling, they share the rich traditions of Native American culture, fostering unity and understanding.

The Native American Heritage Month Event was organized by Criminal Justice Coordinator and Associate Professor, Joseph Wright, his daughter, (both members of the Lakota Sioux Tribe), and our former student Journalist, Nikita Kirsch, who is of Lakota Sioux, Cherokee, Blackfoot, and Crow Native American descent.

Iowa Central Community College students learned about various Native Tribes and heroes, such as the Navajo Code Talkers and Native Chiefs, via displays set up around the SRC. There were also tables where students could make bracelets and learn what the colors represented per the Lakota Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. The students tasted native foods such as fry bread, wojapi, and other treats. Students also participated in a round dance, a traditional ceremonial dance in the Meskwaki tribe. Round dances are a time for people of all genders, ages, ethnicities, and socio-economic levels to come together. They can also serve as a memorial for those who have passed on.

Mr. Wright and his two work-study students organized a fantastic event at Iowa Central Community College to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. One could tell how much hard work they put into the celebration behind the scenes when entering the SRC building on campus. The photos below are courtesy of the Iowa Central Community College page and Nikita Kirsch. Members from the Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce who organized PocaHAUNTus Haunted House presented a check to Dianna Foley of Pocahontas Congregate Meals for the Meals on Wheels program. $3 of every attendee’s admission (after tax) was donated to the program to help ensure its longevity. $2,817.90 was donated in total to the program from the haunted house proceeds. The remaining proceeds from the event were split evenly between the Chamber and Fire Department. Thank you to everyone who supported PocaHAUNTus for its second season!

Hey Misfits, Adam here. This is a post we've debated making for a little bit now, but we're just going to come out with it: we're closing the storefront. Saturday, December 14th will be our last day open as a public-facing business.

As a scorned lover might says, "It's not you. It's me." That's the truth. You all have been great the past year — the store's just become something we can't continue to sustain in its current form. We've often joked that we're the world's smallest game and comics store, and that's been a double-edged sword. The size has kept costs down and manageable, but it's also prohibited us from hosting large events that'd help inject some meaty revenue into the store. Currently, there's not really anywhere to expand in town that'd help us keep the "magic" alive.

Most importantly, however, it's been a huge time suck for the Meltdown Crew. Grammy and Papa Meltdown and Al have put in lots and lots of hours at the shop and, quite frankly, Mrs. Meltdown and I would rather go back to the days of family game and movie nights and give our weekends back to ourselves now.

All that said, we'll still be around. We'll still physically be at 19 3rd Ave NW, just as a business focused on online sales. We're going to dedicate more time to our digital sales through both Facebook and other online presences such as TikTok and Whatnot. And we'll continue to organize Princess City Comic-Con every fall, in addition to Meltdown Monster Madness right around Halloween. In fact, we'll even consider ourselves open by appointment if you want to dig through some longboxes or come in to buy the latest Meltdown Press release (ahem, House of Haunts #1 is currently on Kickstarter).

If you see someone at the shop, still feel free to stop on by and have a chat. In the meantime, here’s another picture of Meltdown Mite being cute as s**t, as he always is:
