With just a few days left until the 2024 Paris Paralympics Opening Ceremony over 1.75 million tickets have been sold so far with almost all events virtually sold out.

The success of the 2024 Olympics a few weeks ago has given sales from domestic and international travellers a huge boost with over 700,000 tickets sold during the games.

The 2024 begins Wednesday, August 28th with 126 Canadian athletes representing the country.

Canadian actor Keanu Reeves signed a one-day contract with the Windsor Spitfires as part of raising awareness for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Reeves had been a former goaltending prospect who almost tried out for the Spitfires but was unable to attend due to an injury that would ultimately take him out of the game and on to the movie screens.

The Matrix star stayed to sign memorabilia and Spitfire merchandise. are set to be auctioned off, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting the CMHA.

Alex Cooper, the host of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, reached a multiyear agreement with SiriusXM worth as much as $125 million throughout the deal, starting to run out episodes in 2025.

With the deal, SiriusXM will replace Spotify as Cooper’s distribution and advertising partner and have exclusive rights to advertising, content, audio and video, and events, with Cooper’s original podcast “Call Her Daddy” and ‘Unwell’ brand.

The average asking rental price for month-to-month rentals in Canada surpassed $2,200 to reach a record high.

A recent report by Rentals.ca and Urbanation, found that the average monthly asking price for all residential rentals increased by 9.3 percent year-over-year to hit $2,202 in May of 2024 compared to rent prices in recent years, rising $540 or 32% since hitting their low of $1,662 in April 2021.

Vancouver, continued to lead the country with the most expensive asking price for a one-bedroom rental at $2,671, followed by Burnaby, B.C. at $2,545, and Toronto at $2,479.

What term is driving consumers away?

Artificial Intelligence.

A study by the Journal of Marketing and Management published in June found out of 1,000 people found products described as having AI were consistently less popular than those that weren’t.

Researchers for example found that any products or services that included “artificial intelligence.” were less likely to purchase them. The effect was even greater with high-risk/big-ticket purchases like expensive electronics or medical devices.

Researchers said this could be because consumers are more wary of financial risks or danger to users’ personal data.

Here’s why more Canadians are looking to travel domestically.

In a 2024 Summer Travel by Deloitte it showed that:

-74% of Canadians are looking to travel within the country to save cost of travel

-Two thirds of Canadians are going to take a road trip 8 hours or less

-Motivation for staying in Canada includes spending time with friends and family, saving money, and shorter travel times.

- 57% of participants were cognizant of Indigenous travel experiences, with Gen Z being the most eager demographic to take part in activities.

- Majority of Canadians are concerned about sustainability while travelling.

-Canadians love to support local. 79% of Canadian’s would rather shop and support local businesses versus a large chain.

According to a recent CNN report, the decline in tourism in Paris is down 15% this year compared to 2023.

Why is tourism down? Partially because international tourists are opting to travel in other, less crowded parts of the country like Nice, and Provence during the 2024 Olympics. Other factors include fears of crowds, political turmoil in France and high travel prices due to the Olympics turning off visitors. CoStar, a global provider of travel data, reported that Paris’ occupancy rate is currently at 80% which is well below the nearly 90% London 2012 games and a 94% occupancy rate for the 2016 edition in Rio.

Even though tourism is down in the popular French city, they are still expecting to take in at least $1.5B in revenue.
