December Theme: CHARITY

December is the season of giving, so please submit your poems on charity/donating/kindness to others.

Traditions has not received a high volume of submissions, so I will be keeping that open for now. Religion will be online as soon - all poems for that have been selected.

Submissions of poems to be sent to [email protected]

10/11/2023

Selecting the poems for Religion this weekend this weekend. I'm not sending out personal rejections so the notes below are more general observations:

1) I saw a lot of poems with notes, and not particularly concise ones. Notes on poems need to be sparing, some submissions pretty much required understanding of a whole other text.

2) A lot of submissions were about French cathedrals, and while there is nothing wrong with that individually, it certainly does create a lack of variety

3) read, and re-read your poems. Think about the meanings of words. Does it mean what you think it means?

Traditions is very quiet on the submissions pile. Don't interpret it only by my ptevious post, interpret as you wish.

November Theme: Traditions

As the year heads into the holiday season, everyone begins to focus on their annual traditions, whether they are eating personal ones such as specific foods at special occasions (mussels, filet-o-fish), social ones, or just the regular routines of the calendar year (christmas, etc). However you define it, it's time to submit your poems on Traditions

Submit to [email protected] before 30th November.

Theme for October: RELIGION

This month's theme for submissions is Religion. Whether you believe in formal religion, or just have a loose concept of belief, or maybe you just like old buildings, somewhere, somehow, religion is in your life, and you probably have a poem about it.

(Marble previously ran this theme, but lost the poems for technical reasons. If you did previously submit a poem, and it was accepted, please let me know)

6 poems will be chosen for publication on Marble's website. The selected poets will also be asked to choose a favourite out of the six poems. Poems should be submitted to [email protected]

Poems can be any length or style as long as it is suited to website publication. Poems should be submitted as word documents.

I would like to expand Marble's online content and make more use of the website as the main source of Marble content, in what I think will be a gradual move away from the print format.

I would like to know if you have any thoughts on opinions, articles, interviews and reviews, artwork etc to provide more content. Preferably in a modern non-academic way. I would like to see writing that is intended for people that aren't writing. Thoughts that challenge the status quo of the poetry scene, not just self-promotion.

I'd love to hear from you, please let me know outlines of ideas if you have any.

Ideally, I'd like to find a few people to volunteer time as an editorial team, but that is dependent on finding the right writers with the right ideas.

April's theme is all about poetry. Writing, reading, buying (*hint hint*)

You might be going through poetry writing guides trying to make sense of things, how to write, trying to figure out what is a poem exactly. (Points to anyone who has read the book this image is from! Double points to anyone who can explain it!)

Deadline is 30th April.

Is there anything that shows the frustration, restriction and physical exhaustion of being a woman more than a corset?

Deadline is March 31st

Some of you might have noticed the Broadsheets haven't been out for a couple of months. There's a couple of boring reasons for it, but also, I really wanted to develop ideas for a more visual element to the Broadsheet. Here's my work in progress on a linoprint for the central poem of the Religion Broadsheet: 'Vow' by Sinead Nolan.

Too much ink, too little. My equipment has been sitting stinky and dry in a cupboard for a while and I'm a bit rusty.

18/02/2022

As print costs become ever rising I'm looking at creating a more hybrid web/print platform for work. This would give me more opportunity to include work that doesn't fit print, visual work and longer pieces (reviews, articles, interviews, etc). If you have ideas you'd like to explore with Marble, drop me an email, after you've perhaps had a read of the magazine.

Issue 11 is going to print this weekend so you can order copies now, or buy a previous issue that is in stock. The first 4 issues are digital only now.

Was out in the National Museum today and was taken with a painting by Caroline Walker and her paintings Women's Work.

I get very few poems about work. It's strange. Poems on work would be welcome in the inbox. If you don't write poems about work, I'd be interested to know why not?
