Meet Scott and Jenny Bilstad, who just opened Bilstad’s Beignets in Ashburn.
We love their light and airy beignets that are made from scratch each day, but we also appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit of this Loudoun County family.
Scott is a Navy trained chef, and started making beignets during Covid for the neighborhood.
They now have a storefront location at 20937 Ashburn Road.
They are open Wed-Sunday, 8-3. But as you can imagine, they often sell out!

The wedding venue industry is thriving here in Loudoun.
Shadow Creek in Purcellville is stunning! Beautiful outdoor spaces, rolling hills and pastures with a chic barn vibe interior.
We had an incredible night celebrating the wedding of Patrick and Ashlyn Carney.

The Leesburg Flower and Garden Show is this weekend.

But what you might not know is that there is a really cool home and garden tour through some of Leesburg's most beautiful properties.

My good friends Andrienne and Rob Bassett are hosting their property on Cornwall as part of the tour.

The tours run today and tomorrow and begin at St James.

Meet Nate and Sarah Walsh.
Sarah tells a great story from one of their first weekends at their tasting room in Purcellville.
A gentlemen walks up to the bar, compelled to share all the ways he believes we should run our business. Although tiresome, I listen patiently. After about 20 minutes, he looks around intensely and questions “Exactly where will you be putting your wine slushy machines?”
I tell him that while I am known as a person who greatly enjoys frozen alcoholic beverages, we won’t be serving them at Walsh. Befuddled, (and with zero irony) he retorts “But what Will the women drink??”
I reminded him that the wines women drink are as diverse and interesting as women themselves.
With this story in mind, I decided to craft a dark, dry and brambly red blend, and create it with a woman in mind from start to finish. This style of wine is generally considered and marketed towards a male consumer, but that mindset is outdated and I was happy to give it a refresh.
Sarah did in fact make that wine. And named it “What Will the Women Drink”

Meet Monica Pindell!
Monica and her husband are the owners of in downtown Leesburg.
It’s not your average dessert cafe. We think you’ll love it.
Monica spent 25 years in the “corporate world” but owning her own business was always in the back of her mind.
In 2019 she took a year off to plan Mocatinas.
Opening in May of 2020, they have had incredible support from the community.
They’ve been able to stay strong and survive the ever changing pivots of the pandemic.
The next time you’re in Leesburg, visit Mocatinas and say hello to Monica!.

It's hard to underestimate the feeling of being "welcomed" at a restaurant.

For me, there are few things more powerful when building a brand in this industry.

Of course the food is important. But ultimately what brings me back to a restaurant is how I "feel" while I'm there.

Vianne and I love Pazzo Pomodoro in Ashburn. We call it "The Regal Beagle". If you're of a certain age you'll understand.

They play 70s and early 80s music. Many at the bar are my age (although maybe not Vianne's). And most importantly, they try REALLY hard to know the people that they are serving.

The food is great. And when I walk through that door, I feel welcomed.

There are a lot of great restaurants in Loudoun that I enjoy equally, but tonight I want to thank Cheers!!

Meet Todd and Aimee Henkle. Owners of Lost Creek Winery and Echelon Wine Bar.

The Henkles had been looking for over 10 years to purchase a vineyard and winery in places like California and Oregon, but found something special right here in Loudoun.

They purchased Lost Creek Winery in 2012 and dove into the emerging Virginia wine industry with passion.

An urban location was something they had always considered. As they watched downtown Leesburg grow and thrive, they found the perfect location at the corner of King and Loudoun for Echelon Wine Bar.

Named after the top Lost Creek Winery label, Echelon serves as a wine education center, private event space and Lost Creek Winery tasting room.

The Henkles have a diverse experience in both global operations as well as start-ups. Aimee holds an MBA from MIT while Todd an MBA from Babson College.

We are wishing them success in downtown Leesburg!

Meet Michele Fisher.
Michele and her husband Corey are the owners of , the new salad and warm bowl restaurant located in downtown Leesburg.
Michele ran Cross Country in college and was a personal trainer and also worked extensively in the restaurant business.
They wanted to combine their passion for the industry with their interest in health.
“To eat fresh and local, and also bring something healthy with a nice atmosphere was the goal. It’s just something that feels good”.
We are wishing Michele, Corey and Lettuce Be LoCo the best of luck!

Over the years we have enjoyed incredible meals at PRIME STEAKS and this visit was no exception. Chef Brad Weideman rolled out some of his seasonal dishes as well as some "fan favorites" like the Lobster Bites and Sous Vide Pork Belly. But the star of the show was his Japanese A5 Wagyu Strip... the highest quality, grade and marbling of Wagyu available in the US. This steak blew us all away with its depth of flavor and richness. If steak is what you love, then you NEED to try the Wagyu. Big thanks to Nazie Malayeri-Apostolou for stepping in to help with our Intro and of course the ever gracious host and Owner Rick Crowe.

Our Story

JC Silvey, Jessie Peterson and Ken DuPuis are the creators behind Inside Loudoun. Each living and working in Loudoun County, they had a desire to bring a unique and fun perspective on Eats, Drinks, People and Places in Loudoun to the community.

JC runs the Real Estate firm Silvey Residential and focuses on representing both Buyers and Sellers in their real estate transactions. He is also a residential appraiser having completed over 3000 residential property valuations in Northern Virginia. A retired Navy pilot, and having spent 8 years on active duty flying combat missions over Somalia, Bosnia and Iraq, JC is now enjoying a quieter life in Loudoun. JC lives in Leesburg with his wife Vianne and 4 children.

Jessie is an avid freelance photographer, outdoor enthusiast, snow boardist, and a marketing and social media specialist. She has lived all over the East Coast and after 6 years as head of marketing for Baltimore Magazine, she is now happily settled here and loving life in Loudoun. Given that she is a consumate explorer, the opportunity to create for Inside Loudoun and to vigorously share her affection for this county was a no brainer. She lives in Leesburg with her husband Damon and their 3 children.

Ken heads up both Modern Filmworks and Digital Spoon right here in Loudoun, focusing on helping brands and businesses grow through video content and digital marketing. After spending the bulk of his filmmaking years in Los Angeles, and tired of the rat race called L.A., he picked up and moved to rural Virginia for a change of pace. He thought he would “try it out” for a year....that was 17 years ago. Ken has three grown children and currently resides in Purcellville. He loves the outdoors and spends as much time as possible on his boat on the Chesapeake Bay.
